    hi,

just in case you have not heard. A&K the chinese company is about to release the M249 light aeg in full metal at the end of august. the current full metal m249 seems to be around a grand.

    http://www.kapowwe.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=a-and-k-m249-para&Category_Code=Latest-Airsoft-Guns&Store_Code=R

kapowwe doesnt have a great name here and i would not buy from them as i find them quite expensive, but it will be in the 'shops' soon.

edit:: it does come with a box mag

the bad news is it 400 dollars but rsov and gunner are expected to be cheaper..

    here are the specs

    Here are the details:
Full metal SAW 249, metal metal bi-pod, metal body, metal stock (Para version), metal barrel, metal gearbox, even the flash hider is metal
    Adjustable hop-up
    High torque motor
    2500 electrical winding box magazine
Metal carrying case w/ foam lining
    8.4v battery and charger

edit: there is a lot of kak floating around about the fps being over 1j...but the general consensus is it wont be...but i suppose a chrono will sort that out..

BAH! Dont think I'd ever spend 400us on a clone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,156 ✭✭✭tonyj_mc

sure the star one is only about €400-€500, would want to be less than 300 or to be considered i would ahve thought, although if it full metal, i dunno know though, would want to be one nice looking AEG to spend that much on a clone

You know, just because it says "Full Metal" doesnt mean its "Good Metal" like the solid aluminium you get with the likes of ICS. Chances are its pot metal/monkey metal and will break quickly where ever the thickness falls below a certain point.

I could be wrong though and I hope I am, I have a hankering for a SAW or LSW.

is it just me, or is the folding stock in that link looking dodgy? it looks like the AEG is resting on the stock at the back and appears to be showing signs of starting to buckle under the weight. Not a promising sign of quality if I'm not imagining it.

stupid blocked site, could anyone post a picture really interested to see what it looks like

now that you mention it..it does look a little pressured...i also think 300 dollars is a lot...there was some mumors that it would be around 150-250...to be honest if it was 150ish, i would be all over that.

tony..i have attached a photo from kapowwe..

and its 15lbs in weight....holy cow...you would want to be like the terminator to lug that around for a few hours...

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 1,314 ✭✭✭Fiach Dubh

15lbs is sod all for a machinegun, my AK74 weighs just under 11lbs. *Edit* The FN MAG GPMG weighs more, not the FN FAL. A mate of mine who was in the Army used the GPMG quite a bit and he said the weight was no problem at all, a bit under 20lbs.

    cheers for the pic Fallschirmjager,
looks ok excpet as you say the stock looking a wee flimsy, maybe its a prototype pic though, don't like the idea of it taking m4 mags, kinda defeats the point of a support weapon, esp if you are paying another tonne for the autowinding mag, think if i'm going for a 249 it'll be the cheaper the star one. one of the lads ordered his own last got it delivered and the moron forgot to get a batt, idiot

    Says it all really.

That money would be much better spent on a high end rifle of the same price.

But hey, if someone wants to jump in the deep and and try one out, I ain't gonna stop ya ;)

Reading all of these comments about not paying x on a clone is funny stuff. Puts a smile on my face for what should be very obvious reasons :p

actually toni thats my fault it comes with the auto box, i originally gave a bum steer there by saying it didnt and (apparenty) like the original you can use m4 mags in it..would be pointless but u could.

i think this is a copy of the ca one..i am going to find out what a gearbox for the ca costs...

Don't think it looks too good at all. It would be prudent to wait for a few reviews on Arnies and the like before you decide to purchase. However if an MG42 appears I'm at the front of the queue :)

It's got nothing to do with being macho. I was simply saying 15lbs isn't that much weight to worry about. You'll adapt to it quite quickly after hauling it around for a bit and with the bipod you won't be taking the weight of the gun most of the time while firing.

if its around 200, i might get one

    if not... not :)

In fairness though i can see this selling reasonably well, for those that cant afford a named brand version. Providing it can be upgraded as im sure for that price its bound to of had corners cut.
I wouldnt worry about the weight(although i wouldnt lug the fcuker around) as your going to be dug into a corner somwhere letting rip with it and not running about with it like an AK or an M4 etc.

Ah but if I decide to do it I reckon it will be cheaper than the paper weight you are planning on purchasing.

Has the word been spoken yet.....?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

im waiting for the para version...if if there are some reasonable reviews then, i will plonk down the cash. dont really care if the problem is only gearbox related as i can slap a replacement into it...as i think its a ca copy..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,341 ✭✭✭Fallschirmjager

jeeze tony i have been checking gunner for that...if that was the para version i rekon i would find it hard to resist...

also changing the spring is exactly like the ca. quite frankly i am amazed its over 1j, actally i dont believe it is..thats putting a lot of strain on a gearbox, good news if you step it down tho...... the nest few weeks will be very interesting on this...

edit...relax tony breathe normal..its out of stock....

edit edit: BUT you also need this...the elcan scope.

Got a confirmation email from Keith today.....these are firing at 400 fps with a .2g BB.

Pity....I was going to get some.
I still might if I can get them downgraded before they ship to me.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭davvowl

cant you downgrade them once you have them ? or is it breaking the law because they are over 1J when reaching the country ?

    That's it.

You have to have them downgraded before they enter the country or you're importing firearms.

    Unfortunately no.

Basically, if it enters the country capable of a muzzle velocity above 1joule it is classed as a firearm and illegal to hold without a license.

I know ti sucks but the law is the law bro.

i will wait till wgc or uncompany get them then and have them change the spring...
