    Hi,

After seeing Prison Love play recently I was wondering where i could purchase an electric upright double bass?

    http://www.nedsteinberger.com/instruments/bass/eu/eubass.htm

I've found the above link but they quote $5000 plus
    Does anyone have any advice?

Has anyone seen the dounle bass the guy in Prison Love plays?
Is it similiar to this one?

Hi, a friend forwarded this on to me so here's the skinny

The bass is an Eminence and you can get it from Thomann.de. The thing I like about it is that its not strictly a stick bass like the one you were looking at. Stick basses have no acoustic sound so they tend to use magnetic pick-ups like an electric bass and so end up sounding like one too. The Eminence has a hollow body and uses a Realist pick up to take the sound directly from the bridge just like an actual double bass. It sounds much better in my opinion. Also for an extra few quid you can opt for one with a removable neck if you are planning to travel abroad muchwith it. The list price in the states is $3750 (I think about €2700) Thomann will send it to you for €2350 all in. One of my machine heads was busted when I got it though so be warned about that anyway.

    Hope this helps!

If you are prepared to spend over €2000 on an electric upright, you might want to consider a local maker. The one I know of is Chris Larkin, whose "Blen" range starts at €2350.

He's even done one with frets - which is going a little too far down the "customer is always right" route for my taste.

edit: just noticed that Thomann has some NS Design WAV4 EUBs for around €1000. Licensed designs, obviously, but I'm considering a "learner" instrument, so I need to have a think. I'd need a copy of Simandl, too...

These is there cheaper version of the one you looking at.

Other models are the warwick ones. Still, nothing beats the real thing...
