    dell vostro.
3 - 5 weeks wait for one. but worth it i would think.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100
    Windows Vista™ Business
    14.1" Wide Screen WXGA (1280x800)
Matte Jet Black with 2.0 mega pixel camera
    1024MB 667MHz Dual Channel
    120GB (5400rpm) SATA
    128 MB NVIDIA® GeForce 8400M
    8X DVD+/-RW Drive

    not bad i think.
    € 978.39

i bought a laptop off dell thursday. priced about 2100.
rang them rather than ordering online. got it for 1900 inc delivery.

id say you might get them down towards 900 if you pushed.
thats 900 inc vat and delivery. maybe find someone who owns a business and get them to claim the €170 euro tax back for you.

    thats only 750 then.

Any experiences with the 13.3" Sony Vaio VGN-C2S?

    1.66 GHz,
    Core 2 Duo T5500,
    1024 MB RAM
    120GB Hard,
Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 950 (which I know isn't agreat)

Could pick up one for about €850 which I know isn't great compared to better/cheaper 15.4" laptops but very much all I can find in that size/price range if I don't want to opt for a MacBook. Looking for something that will take some wear and tear to college every day.

Any experiences? Suggestions for that kind of money (below €1000)

A C2S for 850euros would be a massive bargain, I'd snap the hand off anyone offering me one at that price - however, are you sure you have the model number correct? It's normal retail price is 1200-1400.

I have the higher spec MacBook and find it great. Robust and pretty much does everything I need, including Final Cut Pro, music and photography stuff. Nice screen although the proportions take a little getting used to as does the keyboard. Love the OS but if you need a Windows OS you can install that too and have dual-boot.

Not for you if you're a gamer though.
