My Sky HD Deal

I phoned Sky to get my channels upgraded and to order HD box. The deal I was given is....Sky Hd box €299....Sky World €54.40 p/m for 12 months. However i'm signed to a new 12 month contract. But apparently I would be signed to a new contract by ordering a HD box anyway. Add the HD sub and its €69.40 p/m which is only €1.40 extra than the current €68 original package. Plus the HD box is normally €449 but I cashed in the letter they sent out about a month ago.

    What you think?

That seems a pretty good deal, particularly the €69.40 all in.

How did you manage to get that deal?

I called up and spoke to an idiot who knew nothing. Kept on giving me prices in pounds even after I told him I was in Ireland.

Only deal they would offer is box for €249.

Got the letter for the 299 HD box, but when I checked the small print the offer had expired.

Would be interested in getting HD but not at 450 + install.

Has this offer expired, is there any other way of getting it.

    Any advice appriciated?

Well, no matter how many times I rang up and tried to get any sort of decent deal, I couldn't get them any lower than €369 but I think I was due more off as I was a customer > 3 years. I also had to pay installation as well as make sure I was around when they called - which is always a big problem for me (unless they would come the weekend).

So, I eventually bit the bullet and bought a box from ebay. It cost about 330 all in (incl. p+p).
Set up took ~30 mins, and after being on hold with Sky for 10 mins, spoke to someone and everything was then working fine within the hour.

    Impressions so far:
HD is very like Sky+ or having a decent sub - you don't know how good it is till you have it, and then you can't imagine giving it up.
There are problems - Rewind/FF is rubbish. Its fan is loud. Its sometimes slow to react to the control. Not a huge amount of true HD content. The Premier League is amazing. Unbelieveably good!
Cool things: picture is excellent on HD, some other channels are better, but the Hard Disk size makes a huge difference! Much more space.

So, my advice - if you already have Sky+, buy from ebay and do the self install yourself.

Thanks MacFace, I had a look on ebay and should be able to get this at a good price. Just emailed some sellers to get the P&P to Ireland. Can you PM me the supplier you used.

    Thanks :D

dingding, I used sky-hdmi myself. Competitively priced and shipped same day. Tracking number was also emailed same day. First class service in my opinion. :)
