    Hi all

Looking for some help please - have an MB280SL that I need to get an NCT for - only 28 years old unfortunately. It had an english MOT up to a year ago, so not in bad nick but I'm afraid of what the nct might throw up - the water sprayers for the windscreen dont work, the reg I have put on is the old type which des not show the county or country as they didnt then, and the speedometer cable needs to be replaced - will these cause me problems ? Is there someone I can take it to to get a full pre NCT check done ?

    Cheers

Cheapest option is to bring it to the NCT and fix what it fails on.

    As Blue850 said.
Official number plates were reflective black on white(front),black on red(rear) from 73-87,dont know how strict the NCT are on this?

yep...have to agree there...you'll need to fix the washers anyway...

Thanks for the advice - how do I get it home if it fails - I live about half a mile from the NCT centre so not far - do they slap a big "No Drive" sticker and prevent people from driving them or what happens ?

You dont need to worry on that front as you can continue to drive the car if it fails but you will be required to fix the offending items within a specific timeframe that will be explained to you in literature provided by teh testing centre

    http://www.ncts.ie/inspection_list.html

    Car Testing - Inspection list
    1. Brakes
    2. Exhaust Emission
    3. Wheels : Tyres
    4. Light
    5. Steering : Suspension
    6. Chassis : Underbody
    7. Electric
    8. Glass : Mirrors

Heh, if they did that every NCT centre would need a multistorey carpark alongside it.

The irony of it all. Half the driving population hasn't got a licence yet still drive, a fair percentage don't bother to NCT their cars, and anyway the law is not enforced. On the other hand there are the other citizens who question if they can drive a mile with non-working windscreen washers.

Referring to the question re: checking NCT items... I reckon rust and perished rubber will be your main NCT considerations. Also depending on where you're located I'd be happy to look at your car.
