    I don't understand.

You got your box setup, good.

    And then nothing.

    So your posting why?.

Is there channels tuned into the ****?

Is there a chance it's trying to show channels from a different bird to that of which your dish is pointing at?

I would assume that if he "cannot get it off standby" then there is a fault either in the remote or more likely the box itself, and dish allignment is not an issue.
They are pretty sensitive and it is possible to do damage even setting it up if you short it by attaching the lnb/dish cable after powering up or if there is a short in the cable due to loose strands of wire shorting in the f-plugs or even cable damage.
Disconnect the power at the wall, check f-plugs are not shorted and no cable damage. Attach lnb and power cord to stb then power on again at wall
Another thing to watch for is that dont connect the lnb to the IF output or RF out. Did this once and stb wouldnt start up properly. Luckily a power disconnect was enough to reset and no damage done so it worked fine when connected correctly.

    I am confused here...

You say you cannot get it out of Standby Mode, but yet you also say that it says "Channel not currently available".

If it says that, then it must be out of stand by mode.

Are you sure you screwed the lnb cable into the correct connector?

Also, take a read of this:

Without a little more info from the OP we are all a little in the dark.
" Channel not currently available" could be a possible message from the TV or if looped thru the VCR, from the VCR itself if the stb was not outputting any signal.
Otherwise if it was on but not alligned correctly I would expect to see something like "no satellite signal being received"
Till he clarifies, we are just guessing.
    EDIT
Which he just did 8 minutes ago, oops.
Well at least supplier acknowledges its a problem with the machine.

I just bought the **** max v 2008 and having serious problems. I have tried the powerscan a dozen of times now and still cannot get the channels! I Have tried 6887 and 6952 but still no luck. I have a sky box , does anyone know what to do?
It scans through the 770 chanells for 40 mins and then comes back with 3 % quality, with no channels. Do I use the sky card I have or not? Any sugestions greatly appreciated!!

The box is for cable tv only ! - even though it does have 'Digital Satellite Receiver' on the front :)

Boxed cannot be used with Sky. Can only be used if you have the basic NTL subscription.

And about the box being constantly on standby - most likely there is no software installed on it. Do a google search to find the relevant software and you'll need a connection to hook it up to a PC in order to transfer the software(cable should have been supplied with the box but maybe not). It's Illegal to sell the boxes with software already installed so that's possibly why there is no software with it.

Its illegal to hook up unauthorised equipment to the UPC cable network, under any circumstances, and its banned to discuss "software" for the **** on here.
