as hopefully most of you know the title is a song from weezer.

remember about year ago there was a huge thread over weezer breaking up because some mtv person misread Rivers Cuomo in an interview?

well as a shock to both you and me, it seems like weezer are well into the recording phases of their 6th studio album.

now normally after the last two and a half albums, i wouldn't of cared that much about a new LP coming out but the latest news post on www.weezer.com/default.asp has got me intrigued.

    especially this bit,
...a land where arrangements are getting adventurous, where song structures, lengths and feels are given plenty of sunlight and fresh water and allowed to grow into what the songs demand.

could we finally see songs that equal the length of only in dreams? but on the other hand this album may just disappoint.

    thoughts?

I like all 5 of the Weezer albums but I thought river had fecked off to college so I find it hard to believe. A return to the older style would be appreciated though

he's finished in college, actually was in college when in the latter recording stages of make believe, he'd record his parts in his room in harvard and then mail them to the studios.

the last three albums though have been absolute piss. i mean compare the like of el scorcho with beverly hills. it's like black and white.

It's like Black and White because they've tried to advance as a band. For me, Going Fishing is their best song and that's recent enough

Keep Fishin? :o I agree, and the sad thing is there were better versions of it that didnt make the final cut

I like weezer but i think island in the sun is one of the worst songs ever recorded. It instantly makes me turn the radio off. That said In the Garage is one of my favourite songs. I find them a strange band...

It'd be great if they came to songs as good as Only in Dreams. But hey, I'd just love the chance to see them live again. Green Album is so good to listen to.

the green album is alright, i can see how people like it.

the first half of the album (don't let go / photograph / island in the sun) is ok you know songs are actually different from each other, but the second half could just be easily one long boring song and just seems it's weezer by numbers ala painting by numbers.

actually the re-worked version of don't let go is good the one they play live and on the AOL sessions.

but anyways i'm intrigued by what's going to come from them in '08.

i agree, the second half of green album is weezer numbers. i also feel maladoit and make believe are just not up to par either.
if they want to keep me as a fan, they need to produce the goods this time around.
otherwise all i have is band who produced two unbelievable albums and then failed to interest me again

I think the problem is, well Rivers has said this himself, is that he only makes really good music when he's miserable. That's where Pinkerton came out of: Mike and Carle had died, Weezer had practically broken up and Rivers was depressed in college. He's not really anymore it seems so he's still making relatively good songs but just without the feeling of Pinkerton or to a lesser extend the Blue album.

The Green album was really just formulated pop rock (the structure of the songs are all essentially the same). It's a great album but if you were going back to an album, it'd definitely be Pinkerton or Blue for me.

That said, I've seen them twice live and most recently in Vicar St., they were way way better then a few years ago in Leeds. Hearing the intro to My Name Is Jonas in Vicar St. was the best moment of my life!

I used to really love Weezer and their new albums (Maladroit and Make Believe) have been good but I can't see myself going back to them in 10 years.

 Vicar Street was by far the worst I've ever seen them at (out of about 10 shows). I though Leeds was amazing. I'd put it as the best show, closely followed by the Point 2 years ago. The contrast between the show in the Point and Vicar St. was huuuuge.
