I want to book a week's holiday in New York. What website would give me the best deal or would a Travel Agent be better?
    Thank You

    Hi Glacier,

I go to the US a few times a year & I never use a Travel Agent.

New York is such a simple place to find your way round and find cool things to do. I would suggest to save yourself a few quid by booking the flights & hotels yourself, then get a copy of "Rough Guide" or "Time Out" and do a bit of research before you go to decide what you want to do & see.

There are bus tours around the city which are pretty good, if I can remember correctly you can jump on & off at different stops around the city. You can also get a bus out to Woodbury Common shopping outlets.

Use www.hotels.com (for hotels obviously  ). I am guessing you will be spending most of your time in Manhattan so I would suggest flying into Newark rather than JFK because it's a bit closer to the city.

You will probably get the cheapest direct flights on Aer Lingus I guess, I haven't used them to NY only Chicago so check their site for prices.

    Have fun:)

    What keefg said.
I never use travel agents, they always work out more expensive and some only use particular airlines so you won't get the best deal.

Check out aerlingus.com and delta.com for flights. Delta are often cheaper but keep an eye out for Aer Lingus sale, usually announced around November for travel between Jan-March.

Has anyone ever had problems with US Immigration when just going for a holiday? I dropped out of College early this year & am not working at the moment, they usually ask what you work at. If I wasn't booking through an agent but had proof of the Hotel I was staying at & a return ticket and just said I was a student, would I have a problem. I assume they don't look for proof of what you do?
