The Exams start a week from tomorrow. I know a lot has been posted on this already but just wondering if there are any last minute predictions? Beginning to panic now so any help would be much appreciated.

Claire, Johnny hit the nail on the head, know the law! :)

Don't panic, you'll get through this endurance test just fine.

These are not to be relied upon, but what I've heard.

    Tort:

Animals, Rule in R&F, Defamation, Limitations and Defences, Building/Builders Negligence, Trespass (Person, Chattels, Property), Negligence - Medical, Professions (Barristers), Misstatements (Economic Loss), Passing Off, Detinue, Deceit and Conversion.

    Company:

Expropriation clauses, Examinership/Receivership, Liquidation. Vast amount of other predictions floating about. Fyffes might be a feature from a number of angles, e.g., 2001 ODCE Act, Personality etc.

    Criminal:

CC v. Ireland (CJA - 2006 and 2007), Property, Theft and Fraud, NOAPA 1997 and Defences (Intox, Insan, Self Defence).

    Evidence:

2006 and 2007 changes, O'Brien and Confessions, Witness Statements (Editing) DPP v. Kelly 2006. Right to Silence S. 30 2007 inserting 19A of 1984. Forensic Ev, warrants .....

    Constitutional:

Privacy and Freedom of Expression, Proportionality **(has featured a lot), tribunals, Curtain, International Order, ECHR and grafting rights, 2003 ECHR act and exceptions.

    Don't panic.

Sorry if it's not the advice you're looking for, but it's definitely my priority! If you have sound knowledge of the legal principles, you'll get by.

Don't be. Anyone doing this need to be totally calm. Decent rest this week, 5 days on the trot is going to be tort-ure. ;)

Map out the question structures well and it will be fine. Needless to add some of the legisaltion given in previous years appears not available in Criminal this year, so that might be something to look at, if not done already.

Jesus man, if there's one thing I've noticed about your posts in all of these threads, it's that they do anything but ease people's fears. Five days in a row is no worse than the leaving cert. It's a short, sharp burst, but it's quite doable. Most people who sit exams don't get much sleep coming up to them, and that's natural. I exist on somewhere between 4 and 6 hours sleep a night when I'm doing exams, and lo! I'm still alive.

My advice to people is to just do what they'd do for any other exam - their best. Don't worry if you don't pick up on every new bit of legislation, every new case, and every article written on whatever. Don't worry about memorising legislation/case names because that's not what they're looking for. Once you can give a good legal analysis, you will get by. It's not a memory test. If you can't give a good legal analysis, then you aren't suited to a career as a barrister.

why am I posting here when I should be studying?

Here is my take on the week ahead. There are 3 exam centres - that started the rumours flying that there was a massive number of applications for the entrance exams (over 500 I heard someone say), but as far as I know there is some sort of construction work going on at the Inns at present and they did not have the room. Regarding the number applying I hear it is around 300 with about capacity for 250 in the the actual course - can anyone confirm.

If that is the case it makes me feel good about my chances.

I dont think anyone should be worried about the 5 consecutive days - leaving cert students cram into 3 days what we will be doing in 5 - although I did hear someone say that they would be studying through the night for each exam and going for a few hours sleep after each exam before getting up to prepare for the next one

Anyway best of luck to all next week. My predictions

The new 2007 Criminal Justice Act is relevant to Evidence, Constitutional, and Criminal. For Tort pure economic loss and builders - I really hope defamation comes up in a big way, and for company know everything.

Or know nothing whatsoever and just copy the acts down word for word in the exam (they're provided).

    Sorry, I'll stop.
