Looking for something nice, not to expensive just to get me started into telephoto lense's I was looking at the sigma one 70 - 300 reckon thats a good one to get started with? Will be buying it in the states when I go over next week, going to new york so hopefully I can get some different shots compared to using a wide angle lense

Well, giving the camera make you use would be a start,

The Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 IS L is a brilliant lens and well worth looking at. The f/4 version is also very good.

Of course, the 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS L is also a great lens.

Have a look at the review section of www.fredmiranda.com. All the major manufacturers' lenses plus Sigma and Tamron are reviewed there.

In New York go to B&H Photo at 420 9th Street or Adorama at West 18th Street. They are just a few blocks from each other. AVOID ALL OTHERS.

    Enjoy the trip.

Sigma 70-300 APO DG Macro is less than €200, good value for money lens.

Second the latter. The Sigma 70-300mm DG APO is a great lens, particularly for the money.

Just to point out that the Sigma lens on B&H site advertised for $139.00 is not the one that the other posters are talking about. It is the non APO version. The APO is $219.00

For the money, definitely the Sigma. Just make sure it's the APO version (the lens will have a red ring near the front). The other similarly named one isn't in the same league.
