Sky+ Box Stuck on Standby

Got home this evening to find sky+ box on standby (red light). It won't switch on. I'm guessing it was something to do with the lightning that was in Limerick this evening.

Tried unplugging from wall for a few minutes, but that didn't help.

Is the box screwed? Any other way of resetting it?

Apart from unplugging from the mains, nto much else you can do.

Plugged it in while holding backup, and the green light came on while the firmware updated. Then went off when it finished. I think its knackered.

I googled the issue and see that you can restore the box to factory defaults (and format the hard drive) by holding left and right while plugging it in, then pressing select when the play light comes on. That doesn't work for me.

Looks like I'm calling my Sky installer on Monday. :(

At least you will have the new bigger hard drive box now.

I had about 20 movies recorded from Sky Movies, plus some shows I haven't watched yet. An extra 40gb isn't much consolation....

    Ah well.

Can't Kesh Electrics fix it for you?

Gordon McCrea is supposed to be pretty good.

This happened to me a number of times before I got a surge protector for the Sky+ box. Any lightning or power cuts were affecting it. I would come home find the box stuck on standby so I plugged out the box for 5-10 minutes or so each time, plugged in and pressed backup a couple of times to get going again. I would go into the planner and sometimes recordings would have failed due to a power cut and sometimes not. I also did a planner rebuild (services>system setup> then 0 then 1 then SELECT) prior to plugging into the sp. No problems since.
