My wife will be in Bangkok in a week or two and i was wondering if the good people of this forum knew of bargains to be had there. Inspired by the "Off to America" thread and the good suggestions on there.
She will be getting me a couple of suits made but I am due a Birthday present, so any suggestions?

Getting suits made without you being physically present is a complete waste of time. Shirts should work out ok though, if you get a full set of measurements done before you go.

I was in Bangkok a few months ago and got a suit & 2 shirts custom made, they cost less/the same are off the peg here but the craic we had bartering with them while they tried to get us drunk on singah was great!

I've heard good reports from people who have had suits like I mentioned for years and they have stood up very well.

There are plenty of markets to buy clothes in, it all depends what you are looking for really.

There is an entire shopping centre of antique shops      I'm not kidding this place still haunts me at night... 3 floors of unadulterated crap!!!

She should definately check out Chatuchak weekend market - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chatuchak_Weekend_Market (it's easy to get there on the Skytrain). It's insanely massive, and there are deals to be had everywhere.

Just don't take photos of the caged animals or someone will threaten your life :)
Ok maybe a bad personal experience there!

i would steer clear of getting suits made myself got 2 done lastt year and they just dont look right. shirts and ties are really good value, tailored shirt for around 125 euro and silk ties around 3 euro a go. MBK is well worth a visit was best shopping i found in bangkok

I got six suits made there and they are excellent. The trick is to get referred to somebody good as there are some crap ones. PM and I'm happy to provide details of the guy I went to.

Definitely get over to Pantip Plaza, near the World Trade Centre.

About 8 floors of every type of computer equipment, & lots of people offering you evey type of bootleg movies & CDs.

Buy every type of small adapter/cable/accessory for at a huge discount compared to western high streets or internet. Stock up, even if you dont need them now ! :)
