What's wrong with my pc?? Checking file system on C .

 When I turn it on, this comes up:
    Checking file system on C
One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency. Strongly recommended that you continue

Windows will now check the disc
CHKDSK is verifying files (1 of 3)
    File verication completed.

CHKDSK is verifying indexes (1 of 3)
    0% completed...

Then nothing, it seems to be frozen in that spot. Left it for half an hour to give it time. In the end I had to unplug it from the wall. What the hell is wrong with it? Next time I turned it on, I cancelled the check and ran AVG anti virus which I updated. Everything came back clear. Also ran updated Lavasoft Adware, which came back clear. Please HELP!!

Sounds like you have errors on your hard disk drive.

Load up command prompt (from start / all programs / accessories ) then type CHKDSK C: /F then select 'y'. Do a restart and let the check run & do it's thing, If you have lots of errors on your disk it will take some time. So be patient....

That's if you can get to the start menu...If you can't then do your best to cancel the check even if windows recommends it "strongly" :D

Do leave it longer. You want to fix any nasties lurking on the drive, like bad sectors. Well worth it. Had hell looking at logs on a new machine with RAID 0. Disk errors everywhere because of one bad sector. Ran chkdsk. Left it alone for about two hours and all was fixed.

Definitely let the diskcheck run it's course. Depending on the size of the disk, how full it is and what the errors are then it can take quite a while for the check to run fully. Sometimes it can take 24 hours. Be patient and it will be worthwhile.
