So got a GBB KJW P226 on the way from Airsoft Direct
and a KJW M9 winging its way soon from eirsoft.ie

My father had an old tank of Propane lying about the place so got that today.
The threads and top of the tank are a little bit rusty but the propane
adapter screws on OK and when depresses fires out gas.
When checking the tank with the gauge that comes with the adapter
it goes past the oring. Only catch is that the oring diameter is larger than
that of the gauge. I checked B&Q and they have the same tanks as the
one I got. There is a pic of it below.

What other Gases can I use that wont damage a GBB gun ??
There is also Butane tanks and a mix of butane and propane.
I did not know if these were safe to use.

My father has 12KG tanks of 134A gas too but they are a little big
and would not be flipping them upside down.
And he also has a gas called "Mapp" that he thought would do job.

butane wont work nor will the butane/propane mix unfortunetly. The propane tank ya have is perfect alright. A few people here have mentioned using duster gas  though ive no experience with it meself so cant say much about it

    Mapp = No.

Propane or CO2 are the ones to use.

aah, wish we had propane tanks in this format in france... all we can use is those expensive 1L bottles... :(

Butane will work as the P99 in my left hand will testify too. Although it's quite underpowered in comparison. Duster gas doesn't work that I've seen, and even if it did I'd assume you'd only get a couple of shots out of it due to the compression ratio.

Wooohaoaao, butane, nooo. I Butane burns more than propane...more dangerous...least it burns hotter than propane!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭davvowl

yeah but the quantity needed in a gbb magazine isnt that big, and the quantity released by a shot is like... nothing
i doubt it would be alot more dangerous than propane

I've been using butane for the last 3 weeks around the house for plinking because I've got a couple of spare bottles. Nothing happened me! You realise the autoignition temperature is well into the hundreds

It's not that butane is dangerous, it's just crap power wise in comparison to propane.

At least it'd smell better than propane.

Shouldn't it not matter what gas you use as long as the pressure
is right and it does not freeze or damage the seals ?
as it not burning the gas?

Dumb question but I dont have a GBB yet....
Is the Gas used JUST to re-cock the GBB or is it also used to propel the BB?

Women would run towards your GBB and probably mistake it for a sex toy, providing you used Lynx.

deoedrant wood gum up the insides, and smell nice
    propane buns hotter than butane.
butane will work ,it's to do with the temperature,it turns to a gas at a higher
temperature than propane, you can feel this if you use butane by the feel of the mag,so less amo in the mag and slower on the shots and it will work fine
and save on the money for pinking at home

seriously, the perfume and alcohol in the deodorant would ruin the hop-up.

That's all I use it for, not really strong enough for anything else. And I have plenty of it lying around for use in my soldering irons.

would co2 underpower a GBB also?

    co2 overpowers them.

    duster works good, butane sucks

not tried propane, or straight c02 (Im presumiung the duster is some mix of c02 with somethin else)

the reason why one gas is better then another is down to the pressure that a particular gas must be under before it turns into a liquid. since its the liquid that we're putting into the mags, when you fire, the pressure used to turn the gas into liquid is given back.

The mags cool down due to the liquid evaporating (essentially), and absorbing heat. Boyles law then comes into play - the reduced temperature reducing the pressure in the magazine. Im not too sure whether one gas cools mags down quicker then another... I think magazine design and materials are more important

@bullets: the gas is used to both rack the slide (in the case of a gbb), and propell the bb. cant imagine the pressures that would be required to cock a springer slide ;)

No, C02 can do over 400fps! Some guns have PCs(NOT personal computer) which means you can set it for 328fps:D

The liquid-state temps vary depending on the gas and do make an impact on performance. Propane cools pretty rapidly as it expands in the chamber. Not 100% on this but I've heard that some of the brand name gbb gases have a gas mix that doesn't cool down as rapidly to compensate for the propane

if it has the ability exert more than 1 j then its a firearm

Just thought I'd revive an old thread.

I have a GBB and adaptor on the way, and have gone searching for propane everywhere. I've tried Homebase and a few small hardware shops in town. The only ones I can find are the little camping ones, which dont have the rings for the adaptor. I know Im looking for one for a welding type, but does anyone know of a specific shop which would have them? I dont know any B&Qs near where i live and feel like a tit asking everywhere.

And I'm too lazy to check every shop in town.

    Cheers. :)

    Aplumbing shop should have some.

If you are at hrta on sat I can get you same.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭bewildered

Im working saturday unfortunately. Thanks for the offer though.

So what sort of plumber shop? Are these specialist underground plumber shops?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,877 ✭✭✭liamo333

Its chadwicks plumbing shop in sandyford.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭bewildered

I took a trip to sandyford today to the post office to pick up my AEG, and couldnt find it anywhere. That said it did take me 3 laps of Sandyford to find the Post office. Damn one way system.

Oh and also, slightly off topic, but do I need to get a power adaptor or a power converter for my charger? I'm a complete pillock when it comes to electrics, managed to melt my neices Nintendo Wii by using the wrong one and I'd hate to do the same to my charger...

If ya got it from hong wong you will need a 2pin to 3pin adapter, if it was shive i think i remember him saying he was shipping aegs's with them but dont quote me on that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 100 ✭✭bewildered

Adaptor, cool, so I dont need to convert the voltage or whatever. Grand.

By the way, if anyone's getting irritated by my constant posting, dont worry, I plan on getting out to HRTA on the 29th so you can take out your irritation by shooting at me:) . Lets just say my usual tactics involve running out of perfectly good cover firing blindly into the air while screaming phrases from the films of Arnold Schwarzenegger and that guy who played rocky I cant remember his name for the life of me.

PS I fookin LOVE my new G36C and its little brother my m1911. They make me feel special with their every metallic caress.

Nope, no converotr needed, not for me anyway and the lads i know just needed the 3pin adapter plug.
