How many shots to gain with modern technology?

By how many shots should modern equipment technology lower my handicap?

I learnt my golf in the mid eighties and in a couple of years reached a 12 handicap and held it (with occasional brief visits to 11 and 13) for roughly the next ten years. I then played little or no golf over the last 8 years but have taken it up again this year as a regular a player.

The change in the equipment from my old gear seems enourmous. Assuming I can play with the same skill that I used to, what should my handicap be today - 8 or 9 ?

My old gear is the following :
    - a set of George Nichol irons (2-PW). A pure blade, that I got second hand in 85 and guess dated from the seventies or even sixties.
    - A old wooden driver, small head typical of the time, loft unknown
    - a 3 and five metal woods. McGergor VIP which I bought new about 87 when metal woods were the new big thing.

My putter is a Ping Anser lookalike, and while there seems to be a lot of BIG putters in the shops which seems a new trend, there still seems to be a lot of basic heel-toe weighted putters, so ill probably just stick with the one I have for the moment.

    So switching to :
    - a modern set of gavity back 'game improvement' irons
    - hybrids instead of 3 and 4 iron
    - a quality 460cc Titanium driver
    - todays golf balls (amyone remember the Dunlop DDH500 as the hottest thing in balls?)
should gain me approx how many shots once I sharpen my game up and get used to the new gear?
