not a photography get together but a photography get apart

I was supposed to post this a little earlier.

I was wondering what it'd be like if on a weekend - or something - someone posted a subject or a brief so that if you were going out taking photographs anyway, you could see about picking up a couple of shots that fitted, to post ONE to the nominating thread, not as a challenge (we have a subforum for that) but as a learning process, seeing how other people see things.

I was thinking of suggesting something bog standard simple like "Blue" in honour of the marauding hordes who will be making my navigation around Dublin difficult in the morning but fully understand that since it is now 20 to 8 on a Friday evening and that ideally, I thought the photographs should be taken over the weekend and discussed next week, for example, if required. A little like a mass C&C if you like.

This could be totally unworkable (and seeing the weather...)...but does anyone have any thoughts on the idea?

That's one thing. I'm also willing to release a photograph to the masses for a digital processing exercise like the Gougane Barra one some time ago if people are interested. It'll be a jpeg and I'll see about hosting it on my site if the interest is there.

Also...I'm very tired today. Don't all shout.

oh I don't mean everyone should go out and take photographs of Dub shirts by the way, only that they wear blue and when 60,000 of them get together, two of my main routes into the city centre are a bit hampered. typically you could take a picture of a blue cup, or a blue phone or something. And you can't post something you took "ages ago which is suitable". It should be a fresh shot.

    that's my thinking anyway.

Tis a good idea me thinks. Could really get you thinking when you head out for the day photo taking. Perhaps give even a purpose to going out... if that's the right word, or even it's like something to aim for and keep in the back of your mind.

Tis a bit like the challenges but it would be different in the sense of that we would be focusing on other peoples perception of the words we use and would not be a competition as such, but as you say calina a learning process.

I have ideas for a new type of photo challenge, along the lines of this...

Rather than giving words to base our challenges on, actual briefs, Strobist stylee.

We could then have a gallery style competition aswell, on a monthly basis.

Ye shall see next week... I must consult with Joolz.

OOo I like the idea! The focus of a challenge without the horrible, all consuming pressure ;)

Blue.. hmm... will see what i can come up with.. To post on Monday?

Well cos I was at a wedding until 2 this morning and my feet have been hurting since then cos of very high heels and a lot of dancing and then I had to go to work (on time this morning) my brain is mush.

I say go with blue (oh hot damn, I'll have to go with it myself too).

    report back Sun evening Monday.

Reminder btw way : ONE photograph only to be submitted. One. I mean it.

Pity we've no mod yet. I'd beg for bannings and post edits for anyone who submits more than one. Ruu - feel like applying some whips here?

Good idea ... a little project is good for giving focus ... another idea for antoher time along similar lines (and old one but a gold one recently run in flickr) is 24 hours of boards where all pictures need to be taken in a certain period ...

Mes amis, here is my effort.

I chose blue for the idea as it allowed a lot of scope between feelings and hard objects. Obviously the blue bit is fairly direct here.

The subject is the gear belonging to some unknown kitesurfer on Sutton beach today. In terms of processing the levels were adjusted a little to intensify the colours. Nothing else was done.

Sometimes stuff just left somewhere interests me - I don't know. Also from today I have the corpse of a dead seal and some driftwood from Dollymount. I don't always end up with interesting photographs but this one attracts me.

OK That, to me, has a very eerie feel about it...and you talk of death further down. I say no more.

It is a really emotive photo, one i would definately expect to see on the 6 o'clock news and the like.

Anyway i might as well add my little piece. Here it goes http://farm2.static.flickr.com/1080/1097381156_48003af68c.jpg
