    hello
what is the law regarding a normal paye employee and time of during the 40 hour working week to do your own personal banking. i think you have one hour to do so, but i have been told otherwise. i get one hour a day for lunch but this is usually taken up with traveling to and fro to a cafe along with the time required to eat! can someone clear this up for me thanks in advance
    siobhan!

I never heard of such a thing. Maybe in semi state/state agencies they might get crazy time allowances like that... never heard of it though.

A normal PAYE employee is not allowed any time off for personal errands.

The thing about "One hour a week to go to the bank" is a myth which has carried over because in certain civil service sectors, the employees actually do have this entitlement, and in the past it was a much more common thing - when everyone got paid by cheque, you had little or no ATMs, and certainly no internet banking and cheap credit.

In our modern times, you are not entitled to this hour off unless you employer says you are. :)

And unless otherwise stated the working week is 39 hours.

Read your contract of employment/terms of employment, and if it says that you have time off to do your personal banking then you do.

Otherwise, have you considered internet banking?

According to the law your not entitled to an hour for banking issues,

I have however heard of this before, Its a construction workers thing, where they get an hour on friday to do there banking, but only a select few companies acctually allow it, my brother (Electrican) gets it but he hasn't been to a bank in 10 years. ah well such is life

Only civil servants who took up employment before the advent of electronic payment have this entitlement, the rest don't.
