    hi guys
    hope yer all well
its been a few weeks since i posted here in the mac section
i have 2 harline cracks on me macbook, thats bad enough but they seem to be creeping, im freaked about it
    anyone experience this?
my macbook is still under warranty, cani go back to them with this issue?

the cracks are just near, the 'dugout' to open the laptop on the front, and on the base, near the vent, very vulnerable area, doesnt feel a bit strong.

hehe, sounds like you are going to confession ;)

Sorry to hear that news :( Id just go straight back if the machine is in warranty, cant be having minor earthquakes in Mac-ville. It ruins the lovely look and sure thats the only reason we buy em in the first place, cos they look nice right? Whats RAM? hehe ;)

Back to Apple I say... and best of luck with it!

    Second one today?

Ring Apple Tech support and get your case number for the problem. get them to repair it under warranty and don't take any guff about rough handling or anything. There are cases of this popping (Excude the pun) up now.

I would advise to get an AppleCare Protection Plan on it though, just in case something like that happens again. Expensive, but worth it, IMO.

So, let me get this straight.....BOTH CRACKS just appeared while you were using it? ;)

Still ring Apple and log it, because if you bring it to a dealer, it won't appear on the Apple system (didn't used to anyway), and I believe in keeping a trail of case numbers just in case things get worse.

I've the same, one long hairline crack near the vent, just from using it... I imagine it was caused be the rapid heating / cooling that mac laptops suffer from, no biggy it's only cosmetic anyway.

Another vulnerable area is where the hinges join the screen. A customer of mine had this issue and called Apple who told him to return it to get it fixed under warranty about 2 months ago.

Kinda related to this topic, does anyone know where one could get a refurb of a casing?

My MBP has seen better days, but its still running as smooth as it ever was. Just looks like it was used by a Gaza strip journalist.

    Any ideas?

i've had serious problems on my macbook in relation to hairline cracking of the case around the front. When i saw the first one, i blamed my brother for rough handling the thing!! but then it has started to happen more and more. and now i see others with the problem as well. it makes sense the reason, constant heating/ rapid cooling.

the only problem why i don't return to Apple, is that when the crack happened, the ends of the case started to peel up and i broke the piceces off (as you can see in the pics). so i have a feeling that apple will charge me to fix it. i don't want to pay to get it repaired, it doesn't bother me. but if i could get it done under warranty, hmmmmmmmmm :D

mine went in on tuesday... waiting to hear if it'll be covered by applecare. But it is quite surprising how common it is..

i haven't got AppleCare, but this has to be covered under the limited one-year warranty, doesn't it??

its a manufacturing defect, shouldn't need extra cover for that.
