    Where are all the garages gone? Trying to fill your car with petrol around Dublin is becoming harder and harder. Garages keep shutting down.

    What's going on?

    Profit margins on fuel are getting tighter and tighter, thats why most existing petrol stations are selling every thing from a needle to an anchor.

    Property developers are also making them offers they can't refuse because they are generally located in prime residental areas.

    Yes, that's basically it. The land they are on is worth more than the profit to be made from selling fuel. There are loads of them closing. We're losing all the shops in them too of course, which themselves arose to help make more money for the stations that once only sold fuel.

    It's a shame they don't go back to the old system of having a workshop/garage and being able to work on cars (servicing etc.). That seems to be a licence to print money :(
