Tracking Your DVDs!

    Hi,

hopefully this is the correct place to ask this but I was wondering what programmes other people use to keep track of their dvds? With my collection at over 600 I am struggling to remember them all so I would like to catalogue them in a database so I can search for all De Niro films etc. Would also be great to add when I last watched a film.

I dont mind paying for the programme once I know it has been tried and tested but am also open to saving a few euros!

    Thanks,

    Branners

I don't bother. Have about 400 and just try to keep them in alphabetical order, I take a digital picture of the collection every 3 months or so to keep a record and whenever i loan one out to somone i take a note of it in me filofax otherwise id probably never notice a dvd gone until i went to watch it, though i have been known to re-buy the same dvds as i just can't remember what ive bought when im out in hmv

I catalogue them on my computer with Excel so I can keep track of how many I have and where they are. But I have an online catlogue also on this website:

I have mine sorted by the colour of the box. It sure makes the collection look pretty! I have been meaning to put a list on Excel for a while now, but I've never gotten around to it.

I made my own Access Database for this very reason. I have it at a stage now where you can search title by director or actor etc. Even when flicking through the records A little image of the Video cover pops up. Quite proud of it at this stage.

I use a wonderful Mac application called Delicious Library.

Can scan in barcodes via your Mac's iSight.. lovely software!

Unfortunately I dont have a Mac but looking at that it might be worth my while getting one!

In the PC environment there seems to be two options MediaMan and DVD Profiler! Anyone used any of them? They both seem to be able to scan in thebar code via your webcam which could be useful!

Just found a free version called Libra so am going to try that! I also found this which seems to have some good features!

every time i give someone a dvd[including my brother when he takes it to his room] I note it on my computer.Helps track lost stuff
Dont have enough dvds though to bother listing them all on computer-only have about 30/40[maybe around 50 if ye count a 6 disk boxset as 6 dvds etc]
I do list all my comics on my computer though......

Hey guys, I downloaded that Libra programme (great stuff) but I have one question. It's probably something simple I'm missing, but how do you delete DVDs from your library? I accidently have a movie down twice and I don't know how to get rid of it. Help please!

EDIT: Just spotted another one as well, how do you delete!?!

There are a few good online places you can do this also. I use Listal, although I haven't updated my profile in a while.

I must give Delicious Library a try though. Looks good.

Perhaps DjKeogh can share his mdb file with us. Sounds like a quick and easy way. Although without the barcode reader function, you'd be spending hours inputting all the data from your collection manually....

I had the same idea - make my own database, searchable by title, actor, director, genre etc; had it all worked out but am crap at MSAccess so never got it to work properly.

Can I persuade you to part with a copy of your mdb? :)
