DigiWeb MetroLite/Wireless Question

I've a quick question about DigiWeb MetroLite and Wireless connection
    and hope someone can answer.
(Prob should be asking DigiWeb but dont want to sound like a idiot when
    I order)

Anyways, DigiWeb are advertising around my area and I've been told that
the wireless option is wireless as far as your house and then they drop a
line in from the signal box they put on the roof.

I presume this line goes into a modem/router which connects to your PC.
    Firstly is this correct?

Secondly, herself just bought a laptop with WiFi. Is it possible for her to pick
up this connection or would I have to have a wireless router?

Apologies if these are basic/stoopid questions but I aint got a clue when it
    comes to setting this up.

Oh you must get a router to throw the signal round the house to the laptop.

That one routes both wiredly and wirelessly, on 2 storeys at least.

Linksys or netgear much better choice.

The thompson modem digiweb supply is just that - a modem. Only one device can be connected to it, so you'll need to attach a router to the modem to share the net connection with more than one pc or laptop.

<edit: I'd agree with the linksys / netgear choice aswell, btw>

Yeah had a Belkin router in the house I recently moved into and it was so bad, I bought another one for the house.

I got a Linksys WRT54GS and its working great, the WRT54G is supposed to be better (as in more reliable) but they didn't have it in there when I was in the shop.

I've not had to restart the WRT54GS whereas the Belkin had to be restarted every other day, sometimes more than once a day.

Be careful when buying your wireless router and make sure that you get a wireless router without a build in modem for dsl - sometimes the shops are not too careful about what they sell you. (They are often referred to as 'cable routers' Also be careful of which version of the wrt54g you get - the version V of that particular model seems to have given people a lot of trouble.

This is the type of thing to look for:
