    Hi,

I'm struggling to get my dissertation done at the moment and it's not being helped by the fact that Word 2007 keeps reverting to thinking it's in English (US) and so thinking all my spellings are wrong: ie it keeps trying to turn organisation into organization etc.

When I go into the Languages settings it has English (Irleland) as the default but it also has English (US) and I cannot, whatever I do, get rid of it.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated as it's driving me mad!

    Thanks

Is the language setting on your pc set to US English? This could be overriding word. check in control panel

That was my first thought as well. If you have Office, I think there is a Language Settings tool.

No, it's set to English (Ireland)

I went into the language settings and like I said it always has English (Irish) and English (US) as the defaults, I cannot get rid of the US one.

There is a checkbox that says "Detect Language Automatically". I've checked that and it now seems to accept that the language is English (Ireland) so so far so good.

As long as the US doesn't try to take over again which I suspect it will I should be ok:)

    Thanks for the help.

It also helps to select all the text in the document (ctrl+a) and then use the Tools->Language->Set Language function to ensure that all sections of the document have the same language applied.

yeah pain that there isn't a nice macro to change all existing docs, or apply this to all docs you open up , and change paper size from letter to A4 while it's at it.

anyway in Tools->Language->Set Language make you you change the DEFAULT language too so all NEW documents get the right settings , and check that page size is A4 and also set to default.
