    Hi All,

I want to get a reasonably good lock for my scooter. Does anyone have any recommendations. I would be looking to spend around 100 Euro. Prob a chain lock. Should I get a disc lock as well. Anyone know if there is good value purchasing online?

    Thanks,
    RR

disk lock may not fit, depends on bike, if u do fit one make sure u have one of the stretching thingies form it to the top of bike to remind u it is there.
    v easy to forget.

with a scooter u need to be thinking of locking it to something if possible so a longer, cloth covered or plastic covered chain is better.
I have an Abus Granit 37/60 Insurance lock and chain

I prefer to see what I am getting in chains, lot of cheap OEM/counterfeit stuff on [u know what] bay, the dog would chew through them.

these are very good chains. heavy though. Have a look at the vid on the link. it will give you a good idea of what out there. And how easy it is to steal a bike.

100 euro should get you a very good chain. Cheak out ebay before going to the over priced Irish bike dealers.

    good luck

if ya want a good chain go for an ABUS. Megabikes in wexford street stock them. There 1 of the best chains you can buy.

i got the immobiliser III with a 2m chain. cost about 200 euros incl. postage. I bought from sound distribution. they have a good website. the postage was free when I got it.

great lock but extremely heavy so I leave mine in work which isn't ideal as when lying around it can be tampered with.

I'd recommend an ABUS chain too. Bikeworld in Dublin also sell them, it's best to go and actually hold and feel a chain before buying one online - some of them can be quite heavy, and for a scooter some may be to big to fit through the spokes.

Colm and BJ obviously didn't go to the almax site if they're still recommending abus locks!
Have to admit, the almax ones look good, might invest in one myself

Was looking at the almax site and even took a look at a friends one, but they're completely impractical if you want to carry it around on the back of the bike or in a topbox.

The smallest one weights 5KG (without a lock), my top-box has got a max-weight capacity of 5KG.

Great if you want to secure it at work and at home (and leave it there) but for me a chain + lock is much more valuable when out and about, I've got secure carpark at home and at work.

For the OP: 5KG extra weight on a scooter will be very noticeable, especially when accelerating, it might even break the under-seat cubbyhole if you braked suddenly.

And an Abus chain weighs about the same! IF you're carrying aorund that weight, you might as well use something that works well

I have a lock for bringing in the bike and a big ducker for at home.
I recommend these...very reasonable and free shipping

Hi all thanks for the input. I called Almax alright - they seem to be the best chains alround but I'm concerned about the weight. I was going to go for the almax series III 0.7m. But they reckon it would be too short. They recommended that I get something that goes around the foot rests of the scooter that can be clained to something.

That would be quiet long though I reckon and very heavy - so i'm not sure if it is portable. Having said that they said that the series three were designed for bicycles so they should be portable.

Anyone have any of the Almax seris III and what do you think. I'm still undecided.

Think I might pop to bike world and have a look at a few anyway. Cheers again for al the feedbcak.

Was on to Almax today and had a long chat with the guy, he had loads of advice but I suppose he was trying to make a sale after all.

Was looking at getting a 1.5 metre Series III and a lock and also 2 metre Series III,lock, bag and anchor. Overkill, but I've a bike and a scooter plus my house was burgled at the weekend and while the bikes weren't touched it scared the life out of me:eek:

That's quite expensive so managed to get a discount of £50 (shows the markup they're making ;) ) and delivery is £24.

Not sure will I go ahead with the order but if you ask for a discount you'll probably get something.
They definitly do seem to be the best chains around.
