This was a seminal entry in the series of safety ads that used to be on rte in the late 70s/early 80s.Grandad sleeeping with the fishes was the best of the bunch but there were so many more ."Oh me aching back!"to name but one.How many more can you remember?

Remember the ESB ones alright and 'John, did ya put the cat out?' Poor John. :)

And the one with the two buckos fighting as the school bus approaches, with one of them nearly ending up under the wheels."No wonder the driver is annoyed".

Wasnt there a check that a mother was doing to see if her child was deaf where she repeatedly shouted "BA" into the kids ear.

Also one of vigilant driving, where a driver spotted a kid running out onto the road, by seeing her little feet under the car....

Was the cartoon dog going out with a pack and killing sheep another in that series. I remember the foxes always got the blame.

There was an ad to do with deafness at work.A guy goes to see a standup comedian and we hear what he hears ,which is just a high pitched squeaking noise.

Was that not a nun that was doing the shouting?

And then there was the ad about the girls nighty that couldn't go on fire or something.

CP8355464 or something weird like that it was called.

Another classic was the one with the guy drilling, who gets the cable wrapped around his leg and gets electocuted. When another guy rushes in and grabs him he gets fried too.Dramatic stuff.

Another one of those health and safety ads had a child in a farmyard falling head first into a barrell of water.

And another one was outlining the dangers of a couple of inches of water in a paddling pool.

Spose in 20 years time, some saddoes might have the same conversation regarding the road safety ads.

The British safety ads were terrifying, that farm one is haunting me. :(

Another scary one was a drink driving ad that juxtoposed someone being run over and a shotgun being loaded. The final shot was the shotgun sliding along a bar counter and knocking over a load of glasses.

And who could forget Bob Geldofs campagain against those who vandelise public phones."Phone wreckers are idiots".Cue vigilante mob bearing down on one such phone wrecker while chanting a version of another brick in the wall.

Another one from way back in the mists of time was one featuring a load of forklift drivers having dramatic accidents on the job, there was a guy crashing through a wall and another going over a pier.I assume it was for safety while driving forklift.

Wasn't it IS 148? Remember the next line: "I know that probably souwends like a rauuwbot!"

    Old safety ads absolutely rock!

Im disapointed with that talking belt buckle safety ad,if that was back in the heyday thered bound to be some dramatic crash action and wild overacting. The ads now are too tame.

Does anyone remember the CIBA GEIGY ADS?
    - The Irish Cowboy holding the bull in a headlock and shoving the CIBA GEIGY Gun down his throat! Classic.

    And the other ad -

"Bonzi wants to go out dear"
'DO YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR DOG GET'S UP TO AT NIGHT?

RUNNING FREE, HE COULD BE A KILLER!'

    CUT SCENE
    FIELD FULL OF MASSACRED SHEEP

    next morning................
    "Hello, Bonzi!"
