Broken AEG

    Hey!!

Lads I bought a G&P M4A1 AEG from fire-support.co.uk, the other day. It was delivered yesterday. Everything I ordered was included and well packaged. I put the battery on charge for the recommened 12-14 hours. Today I tried out the gun. At the start it was working well. I fired a total of 120-150 BBs when I heard a grinding/screeching sound. I removed the magazine and several BBs fell from the gun. Now it won't fire any BBs and is making a different sound to when I first tried it. I can't see any jams, when I look up into the magazine well all I can see is a little hole when the BBs are fed through. I tried adjusting the hop up but still no luck. Could a BB be jammed in there somewhere or what do you think the problem is? What do you reckon I should do??

    Any help would be great!
    Thanks lads!

Push a cleaning rod down the barrel, if it stops early then theres a bb stuck in it. you should be able to push it out (Make sure the hop-up is off first)

Could something be in the gearbox guys?

Or, could they have destroyed themselves that fast?

    Is this 100% stock?

Hey I don't have a cleaning rod yet. How do I know if the hop up is fully off?

This is the AEG I got from firesupport.

    Thanks for the quick replies!!

There should be a rod in the box, wait it says you dont. That sucks. You should always clean a guns barrel when you get it as they are often filthy. Dirt can cause jams.

One, turn the magwell towards a light and look down the barrel, can you see the light?:p

Now, i'd say it could be the tappet plate. Fire the gun and see if you see movement in the chamber.

    Alrite man!

I can't see the barrel at all. When I look into the magwell all I can see through is a small hole that that BBs feed into. The rest is just the metal case housing the internals.

It doesn't fire at all. I put the mag back on now and tried it again. Now there's a load of BBs loose inside lol. Some roll out of the barrel when you move it. Yeah I can see something moving around inside, dont have a clue what it is though!

LOL, look down the barrel from the flashider, wait, i'll draw it.

    Uploading, attached below.

But if all the bbs emptied id say its the tappet plate. with each shot this allow one bb in, yours is locked open...

    Edit, failed Upload!

Haha... I meant I can't see it from the mag well :o

If the tappet plate was broken would that explain why the gun doesnt fire?

Grinding / screeching sound? That's the sounds gears make when they are stripped.

As Lethal suggested, shine a torch into the barrel from the mag well. Look down the barrel from the flash-hider end and check if you can see the light from the torch. If not, then something is blocked, but that wouldn't really explain the grinding / screeching sound.

erm its a day old gun and im supprised no one has suggested getting in contact with fire-support.co.uk as soon as you can so they can help. rather than not and them asking you why it took so long to get in contact.

as crazy said, sounds to me like a gearbox problem .

i agree with eyes but also everyone else as it happens...150 bb's

i would see if its bb's jammed, but if its anything else like the gearbox...its an issue for firesupport...

@Grey: Did you purchase any upgrades on the gun, ie bigger spring? that could cause problems!

    Alrite lads!

CrazyRabbit I did that now. If I shine the torch through the muzzle and look up into the magwell I can see the light. When I squeeze the trigger I can see something moving back and forward at high speed. That seems to be the only thing that happens when I squeeze the trig.

Eyes, I sent FS an email earlier at about two basically saying the same as my initial post. Just gonna have to wait and see what they have to say!!

Lethal, nah it's just the bog standard gun from the link above using BBs bought from FS.

I dunno lads sounds like I was just unlucky!! :(

Thanks for the helpful advice and info!!! :D

The thing that is moving back and foreward is the air nozzle. <--If that is happening there shouldnt be anything wrong with the feeding. Have you any silicone oil? If so spray it into the mag and mag well.

You may have a dodgy mag which is no problem. If your getting spare mags I would reccomend MAG 120rd midcaps.

    Hey!

No I don't have any silicone oil ( I'll have to get some lol! ). Yeap it could be the mag.

But when I squeeze the trigger that seems to be the only thing that is happening and it sounds different to the first few shot that were fired. Those had a big of a kick in the sound like but this just sounds like the motor spinning and the air nozzle moving???

Try recording the sound and throw up a link to it here someone can tell you if it sounds broken or not

    hey!

It sounds almost exactly like this only it's more continuous and constant.

    http://www.audiosparx.com/sa/play/port_lofi.cfm/sound_iid.57172

I'll try put up an actual recording of my AEG later on tonight or tomorrow.

EDIT: Here you go lads. Actual recording attached. The first 3 sounds are semi-auto followed by full auto. Sorry about the sound quality had to use an old mp3 player lol.

Hmm sounds like the gears aren't catching the piston, I'd guess that the gears on the part labelled "C" in the attached picture are no more. Get on to the guys you bought it off immediately.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,170 ✭✭✭✭ED E

Yes, by the sound of that something spinning but the piston isnt moving. The motor could be not connected to gears but the air nozzle moving means they have to. NOIPs right. Could the piston have spun out of place? So that the gears are on the side?

yeah sorry to tell you that mate but thats without any doubt the sound of a piston which lost its teeth...
thats a pretty common issue on G&P aeg's
you have to send it back to where u got it, unless you know someone who can change your piston

    Alrite lads!

Firesupport replied to my email there today. Really helpful crowd! They reckon I should send it back to them and they'll have a look at it! At least they'll fix it up for me! :D

Guess I just have to wait another while before I get into the sport! Does anybody know if I'll be charged customs for sending it to the UK and back to Ireland?

    Thanks for the help lads!
    Great advice and info!
    Cheers.

shouldn't be charged customs (its in the EU (sort of))?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 306 ✭✭davvowl

you shouldnt be charged since its just sending/receiving something to/from someone, and you already paid for it so they cant charge you the VAT twice on it.
if they do, pay it, since the mailman will be clueless i think, and go to the post office and just show 'em the customs VAT receipt you got when you first received it (if you got any) and ask for refund, that should work.

VAT is only charged when you import something from outside the E.U anyway, so you should be fine in that regard.

yeah true, i forgot the shop was in the UK, so yeah, no vat :p
