Whats everyones thoughts on doing deals on the FT? I was watching the FT of the 40FO last night, it was down to three and the shortstack had doubled up, so everyone was even. The prizes were 1300, 700, 400. Average was about 9BB's

Would this have been a good time for a deal? For a 3 way split everyone leaves with 800, better than 2nd. Are there good and bad deals at this stage?

Its a very good time to do a deal when the average stack is 10 blinds unless someone is playing far too tight.

There are always good and bad deals!

I personally like to deal when stacks are shallow and where I am guaranted more than 2nd place (not that this has come up for me in the last 6 months :D )

When the play is gone and all that's left is the gamble - chop it up and deal

I rarely make deals unless I am sitting with very little chips and somehow manage to persuade the chip leader that a deal is in his best interests.
However in this instance I would probably accept the deal for the following reasons:
    A)It was a school night
    B) 800 is more than 2nd.

This would be under the assumption that both players were of a decent standard.

If I thought the other two or even 1 of the other two were muppets I would probably play on.

In the example given a deal is good. Everyone's a winner.

However if you ever find yourself three -way for a trophy or title always leave some extra money in there to play for.

Don't do what I did at the Galway Open. I had 50% of the chips but it had reached the stage where post flop play was almost impossible. We made a deal where I got the most money but left nothing except the trophy to play for. I owned Gooner and he knew it :D But with money sorted he pushed with 45 and ran into my aces. He ended up with a straight - crippled me and got the title.

    Grrr!:D

"school night", just how many poker players out there are still in school? and why would it matter? School doesn't start til September.

Anyways I'd take a deal here anyday over getting a kick in the balls by variance.

sh1t loads to say the least. There were 7 tables and a waiting list and when people busted out new stacks were sat down in their place. cash games wernt bad so i did my usual trick of donking off my chips when i got bored and jumped straight into the thick of things.

We went to dicey's and im not joking i was fully expecting to turn around and see my 14 yr old sister in the place as i have never seen so many 15/16 yr olds (jeff you would of loved it):D

Its nice to do a deal. You get home earlier.

If someone refuses to deal they are saying they can outplay you. It follows from that that they think they can outplay you with weakish hands. Just call every bet. The only mistake you can make is to fold. Of course it helps is you have a monster hand. ;)

I love how people grossly overestimate their abillity to outplay people with average stacks of less than 20 BBs.

Firstly "school night" refers to people who have work the next day.
Secondly I dont overestimate my ability at all. In fact I am an average player at best. I simply stated that if I think 1 of the other two is a bit of muppet, over tight or as something I think as a weakness I'll play on. (even if it is a slight edge with under 20BB) This isnt to say that my opponets dont perceive me as a muppet luckbox.
Now this has been bit me in the ass on numerous occasions, but overall I am +EV from doing this.
However as I stated the deal offered in this circumstances seemed like a good one.

Learn from the pros "My sponsors won't allow me to do deals. Nothing personal" ;)

im always for a deal if its in your favour.

last night in drogheda we were 3 handed. the prizes were 1k 1.3k 1.8k for the remaining three.

i had lost 3 or four all ins whilst chip leader and was now struggling. there was 180k in play, id 35k v 55k v 90k
I proposed taking 200 off the 4100 for the dealers - ill take 1200, other guy takes 1300 and chip leader takes 1400. not really sure how it was accepted, but if youdont ask you dont get.

On a seperate note, how closely is deal making involved with subconscious collusion/softplay??
If as always seems to happen in the SE, you get to last 9 out of 45, 6 to be paid, and someone suggest giving the last 3 their money back (which i think is absoulte bull****), whoever says no seems to have a target on their head. id often sit there, hope someone else says no - and if they dont, only then will i say it. its normally followed by a comment like "well next time ive loadsa chips and your short i'll remember this". or when four out and you disagree to an even split as all stacks are relatively the same. with atleast one of the players they will have the mentality of "catching you out . . . " or teaching you a listen.

Whether intentionallly or sub-consciously turning down deals leads to collusion/softplay to your disadvantage. Opinions??

if the stacks are all pretty even it is a bad time to do a deal. Everyone will want to split it evenly.

If you wait till the stacks are uneven (doesn't matter if you have a big or a small stack) you will find some people willing to agree to horrendous deals.

That was a great deal on your behalf. I dont know how the hell the chip leader agreed to that. I did a similiar deal in the Fitz one nite when there was 4 left. Piss funny as 1 of the people who made the deal only started complaining after agreeing and we were walking out the door !!

In terms of the SE I always refuse this bull**** type deals. Quite frankly though I think half the people secretly want somebody to say it , but dont like to say it so the collusion softplay doesnt play any more than the usual clickiness in the SE among the regulars.

I only do deals if I'm very tired or when I can do a deal that is unfairly in my favour.

I love deal making, I dunno why, I just love it. I've had a few eye-popping deals in my favour in my time (most recently, Waterford....). *

Anyone who says they never do deals (they exist) are either idiots or liars. Probably both. The reason I will generally do deals is because when the stacks are that shallow its a fairly random outcome which of the top slots you will get and since the deal is better then (in this case) 2 out of 3 of them.

Do deals that have a +ev, just like everything else in poker...

    DeV.
*KPNuts is not allowed to raise the utterly ridiculously good deal I let him mug me for at the same final table. In my defence he was breathing on me and I dont like to drink when I play... :p

that deal was def unfair in my advantage

    - but the guy was put under absolutely no pressure to take it, i twice said sure leave it and we'l deal on -
but i take your point kebab, if he hada turned it down, i wuda been gunning for him! ( it already was a bit personal as he'd won 3 races against me)

is it just a given that human nature would turn u slightly against the guy who turned it down? and is everyone aware how this affect table image? or could anyone actually say they would play the exact same way if someone turned down a deal that they were in favour of

(just to point it out - i would never like to get my money back in a 45runner field, if i was final table - the big illusion of the final table bubble (and how the SE actually go hand4hand with it) when the cash bubble isnt until the final 5/6 is stupid

I never thought about that hand for hand malarky before in the SE. The fcuking thing would probably be over 1-2 hours earlier if they did away with it !! I am gonna give out the next time I am in the position ( Probably end up going home 12th !)
Maybe they do to create a bit of excitement and\or sense of achivement for people who final table ? I dunno.
I know we all do it from time to time, but taking things personnally at the poker table doesnt help your game in the long run. or does it ??

Screw deals you never know when you will be at a final table again.
OP should have suggested that the only way he's doing a deal is if you combined 1st,2nd and 3rd place money and played FTW.
