    Hi,
A user here logged in to their machine this morning just like any other morning and outlook asked for a password out of the blue. We are on a domain so this should not happen. Anyone came across this before?

? what? all email accounts have passwords. ask your sysadmin to reset the password for your email account.

It will be their windows username and password...

Ie yourdomain\username for the username and the users password for the password...

We get this sometimes in here...

if that dosent work chances are your windows account has been locked out and needs to unlocked in ad by your admins/tech support...

I know email accounts need passwords! Jesus.

I know the login details. I'm just wondering why the hell exchange is asking for it when I'm logged onto the domain.

Two reasons. One, the system is no longer authenticated by the domain, can happen if the DNS on the system has been pointing to something stupid like an isp DNS server and not the Domain controller's DNS server.

the other might be if they are using a personal PST file and someone set a password on that file.

He must have disconnected from the network after he logged on this morning so and then tried to open outlook after reconnecting.

Have you checked if the account is locked, usually happens when the account locks that Outlook asks for the password and even when entering it it will keep prompting.

Check that "Always prompt for username and password" is not ticked under the Security tab of the account settings.

Nope it's not. It never asks normally. It's nothing major. Just aroused my curiosity now this morning.

Slime chance but could it be that the users password had expired in between logging in to the domain and opening up outlook? Happens to me very occasionally.
