Nope, you can stay up to 90 days through the visa waiver program as long as your passport is valid.

And you're a passport holder of the participating nations.. http://travel.state.gov/visa/temp/without/without_1990.html#countries

..and you don't have any sort of criminal record.

Btw Kev, I've moved your post over to Abroad as permanent immigration posts are not directly related to this thread or forum :)

Guys, I'm heading over the USA for a month soon and I know the situation is/was that you don't need a visa to enter the states as long as the duration is under 90 days, it even says this on the embassy site. But a couple of people mentioned something to me about now needing to register with the US embassy at least three days before you go on any sort of trip to the US? I'm pretty certain they heard this on the Gerry Ryan or Joe Duffy today so I'm kind of taking it with a pinch of salt until proved otherwise.

    Thanks

presuming you are an Irish passport holder you don't need a visa.

What you heard on the radio is not in place yet , it was a new law passed in teh US that they have yet to even decide how to implement

If you are flying direct from Shannon or Dublin you will go through Immigration here, if not you will go through in the US

Does the 90 days mean a consecutive 90 days, over a calender year or over 12 months?

90 consecutive days - you can go in for 90, leave, then go in for another 90 etc - technically ;)
