Blurb Photobooks

These people seem to produce good quality photobooks at reasonable prices (although shipping is charged on a per order basis so it could be a significant addition to the price):

I've a wedding coming up shortly and I'm thinking of using them. Has anyone here any experience of them?

    Regards,

    John

I actually read a post earlier where Colin Jago reviews a book from blurb, he mentions a bit of a colour cast and serious postal charges:

I haven't used them yet myself but they have introduced a new printing facility in the Netherlands. Don't know if it's any cheaper for postage.

I tried out their software, which worked quite well ... there are a wide range of page layouts, but you have to choose from what's on offer. However, it's only after putting together your book and uploading it that you get a price for shipping, which was prohibitively high. After uploading and seeing the shipping price I hesitated for a few days, and then got an email offering $7 off postage costs.

So as it stands, a softcover 8x10 book with 80 pages is €16.95 with an additional €23.37 to send it to Dublin. It still comes out cheaper than 80 8x10 prints, from say photobox, to put in an album, although I'd imagine the quality isn't the same ... still I'm hesitating over that shipping cost.

I've ordered two books from Blurb - the first my portfolio for submitting to art colleges, the second a request from someone who'd seen the first one and wanted something similar with photos I took of her.

They're obviously not gonna be as good as you can possibly get, but for the price they're fantastic, postage is relatively quick to Ireland and both times my books arrived within maybe 4 business days..

I've done a few books with Blurb including 2 wedding albums. I find them the best of the lot (online anyway). Quality wise, well above photobox's service.

I'm not sure if they've added it yet, but they mention foil stamping is in the works for the hardcovers. That will be a very nice addition to their service.

Quality issues aside, this looks like a fantastic idea.

We've been after something to celebrate Caira's first birthday, and this looks like a great way to do it.

Being in the US I'll undoubtedly get it a bit cheaper to boot.

    Whee.
