Fiat 127, Opel Ascona and Datsun Cherry spotted (Irish regs) .....possibly for sale

I spotted an abandonded Fiat 127 today (1978-1982 model) in an enclosed old garage compound. Its surrounded by about 3 abandonded Fiat Bravos and a Fiat saloon (model before Marea??).

Its an Irish reg --- RZB (I think) and may be worth saving (or suitable for parts). It's in Shilleagh, County Wicklow in a former Fiat dealership - 'Shillelagh Motors' (just drive into centre of village and take the Tinahely road...the garage is on the left).

N.B. - The garage looks to have gone out of business a few years ago, so if interested in the 127 you would have to make enquiries locally as to who owns the premises.

Hopefully somebody here might save it.

Also spotted an Irish reg Opel Ascona (1978-1981 model) and Irish reg Datsun Cherry (1978-1983 model) ...thought there were no Irish reg Cherrys left??!!)
Both of these look to be in excellent condition and are in the yard of a private house on the road between Carnew (WW) and Gorey (WX).

I don't know if they are for sale (they have been moved around the yard and have recently been joined by an MG Midget so perhaps the owner is a member of a club), but if anybody is really interested I could call into the house sometime to find out.

Good spots, perhaps Blue850 from this forum will be interested in the Fiat. I am also surprised (but glad!) to hear of an Irish reg Cherry still about.

I haven't spotted too much lately except for an Irish reg Fiat 132 in a yard in Longford, from a distance it looked very shabby and like it hadn't moved in years. I'd imagine the underside is horribly rotten. Also saw a Fiat 128 in Offaly again from a distance didn't look too bad though.

Anyone here own or know who owns "the" blue Renault 20 with the Irish reg? I have seen it in the car park at a couple of classic shows.

Just going off topic for a minute has anyone been watching the programmes from the RTE2 "take two" archive. There are loads of old reg cars to be seen. Last nights programmes were related to GAA and were made in 1995 and there were loads of seventies and eighties cars to be seen. I'd say an awful lot of these were wiped out soon afterwards by the scrappage scheme.

    I'm trying to kick my 127 habit:D
I know the chap who owns the Renault 20, he has the largest collection of Fiat 132s in the country including a few immaculate examples. He has a lovely Fiat 1500L as well.

    .

Ha ha man i havn't seen one of those in ireland for years...
But i do know one guy who's directly responsible for the death of at least 9 of them.
He used to use them as hot rods/ grasstrack cars in the early to mid 90s. had a cherry turbo too, which was mint, and sounded amazing but that got written off by a bedford TK horsetruck flattening it.

I was watching the film 'The Commitments' their the other day, and just too see the now-old cars that were on the roads brings back the memories.

This maybe of interest to some people: http://www.imcdb.org/movie.php?id=101605

Isnt the I500 from the 60s? a neighbour had four of them but they went to the scrapyard about I6 years ago. In the last few years one of these was advertised for sale for 8,000 euros which I thought was way overprice. The same seller was also selling an II00 with suicide front doors for about I000 euros....

His 1500 is very rare as its a 1500L which is the big 1800/2300 body with the 1.5 engine, he thinks theres 2 on the road in Ireland and the UK

My dad used to have a FIAT 1500 in the early-mid seventies. It was white, reg CZJ 120. For a few years after he sold it i'd occasionally see it with a ladder on the roof, but after a time it just seemed to fade away.

This one is currently for sale on Carzone, with original Irish plates:

And this is another one, with English plates (this has been up for sale for ages. It'll be a pile of rust by the time they sell it! :D):

Thanks for that, i havnt looked at carzone for awhile now. They are the version that came out in mid 1980 after mine, theyre the N10 type i think, mines a 100A FII,i like the sylish stripes on the red one though:p. Seems a lot of money too, im sure thats the reason that its been for sale along time. a lot of stuff on carzone seems to be very expensive, or is it just me:confused:

I agree with Carzone having expensive stuff. Sure there is a guy trying to sell an '86 Opel Kadett for €1,600 or there abouts, and another selling an '88 Ascona for €1,500. No wonder no one buys them at those prices.

I reckon what happens is that joe bloggs puts a car on for a silly price, then someone else sees it, thinks theirs is worth the same and puts their car up too for the same money so all we end up with is a lot of expensive cars that no one will pay for, RWD starlets are a good example of this, 6or7 grand for what are often very basic standard cars.

The property market has a lot to answer for:)
