    Hi lads,
I need to get zelda (or a zelda type game) for my gf cos she is going to be in hospital for a while (and Zelda on the snes is her favourite game of all time).

Anyway, was disappointed to learn that the Phantom Hourglass won't be out till October.

Are there any other Zelda games I could get? (can't the DS play Gameboy games as well or something?)

Are there any games like Zelda around?

    Cheers all,
    Quad

    edit: I just found this
    http://www.play.com/Games/GameBoyAdvanced/4-/112804/The-Legend-of-Zelda-A-Link-to-the-Past/Product.html

Which might fit the bill - the only question is that my DS was bought in the US. I know DS games aren't region specific but are/were GB Advance games?

Zelda and the Minish Cap for the GBA is good (although not very long compared to other zeldas).

Zelda A Link To The Past was the SNES one. Its also available on the GBA (ie will also play on the DS).

You'll probably need to buy those through ebay, as they're not easy to find in shops....

You could try the oracle of seasons and ages. They are both zelda games for the gbc and are supposed to be quite good.

As far as I'm aware GBA/GBC games are all region free.

GBC games don't work on the DS

Minish Cap and Link to the Past are both superb. They will certainly fit the bill. As for Zelda like games on the DS / GBA, I suppose a Pokemon game (no smirking now) would fit the bill - same kind of gameplay, just with turn based battles and cute battling monsters.

EDIT: and oh yes, everything is region free.

i second the pokemon idea as there quite addictive and i have at least 100 hours play time on my diamond version

I'm not sure if she'd give Pokemon a try.

What do you have to do? Is is quest based ala Zelda?

Pokemon gets a lot of unfair criticism because of the kiddie image it has and all this criticism is from people who never played the series. It's awonderful RPG series with a huge amount of depth. The battle system is probably the deepest of any RPG I've played. It will no doubt keep you're GF amused through her stay in hospital and beyond.

Pokémon is great fun and everything, but it's nothing like Zelda.

A Metroid or Castlevania game might fit the bill. They've got similar exploration, item collecting and fighting elements to Zelda, but they're played from a side-on perspective like Mario. Metroid Zero Mission (GBA) and Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow (DS) get a thumbs up each from me.

Oh, and my girlfriend is playing Zelda: Minish Cap on her DS at the moment herself, and she seems to like it a lot.

The GBA Zelda's are difficult to buy here but in Europe they're all over. If yougo to a european media store's website you should have no trouble finding one first hand.

    Or just play LttP

I'd say Minish Cap would be your best bet, as the Zelda game you posted, LTTP and 4 Swords is the same game she would have played on the SNES. If she has played it recently at all, then I wouldnt get LTTP, but get Minish Cap instead. If LTTP is her fav game of all time, and its been a while since she played it, then do go for that one.

    Hi Quad Red,
I only traded in both Zelda: A Link to the Past & Metroid Fusion on the GBA last Thurs. Both are amazing games. I traded them into Gamestop on Henry St. I don't know if they would be still there but if you go in ask for Dave and ask him about the stuff Big Jay traded in. He's a friend of mine. I traded in over €400 worth of games and consoles there last week.

    Regards,
    J

    Appreciate all the suggestions.

Will take a look in Gamestop on Sat to see if Zelda is still around j14.

Gotta get something to keep my girl occupied so she doesn't have to stare at the walls in one of our Grade A, not second rate in any way, hospitals.
