Could someone tell me what kind of stuff you get off the architect/developer if they are drawing up your house. Do you just get basic blueprints or do they offer some kind of 3d walk through for example? And also if you are buying a house in an estate yet to be built, again will you just be given basic blueprints to go on or will there be some additional media?

Generally you'll get a load of draught plans which you can discuss and mull over. After that, they'll draw the actual plans up, which are then used to apply for planning permission. They'll usually give you a copy of these plans.

If you're buying in a planned estate ("off the plans"), then usually the developer will do up a brochure, containing artistic impressions of the houses, along with floor plans for each house, and in the case of blocks, they'll do layout plans of each block.

If you are having it designed specially for you, you can specify as much detail as you want (and the designers will tolerate).

Buying from a developer, all you will get are the bare drawings and some marketing bumph.
