Free 30 day trial for Planetside

The beauty of the trial keys is that once the 30 day trial is up, you won't have to buy the game. All you have to do is subscribe and off you pop.

Planetside has recently had publicity in UK PC Gamer, and a lot of vets are returning. Also new additions have and are being made to the game, such as rotating home continents, the Galaxy Gunship and the cloaked air transport vehicle, the Phantasm.

For anyone hearing about the game for the first time, I reckon you should give it a shot. I've been playing it for nearly a year, and despite its ups and downs, its been fun. Heres a trailer made by community member Radant-J if you need more convincing

The Galaxy gunship and Phantasm are in now? I haven't been on in a week or two ... there been a new patch, or are these still forthcoming?

They should be enabled by Friday morning. Think they are patching the server thursday night (US time)

Gawd I used to love this game. Might give it a go again to see if its improved much.

At the moment, only the people who attended the SOE Fan Fair can use the Phantasm and Galaxy Gunship. I was in a gunship on Emerald there a few days ago with some outfit mates. The pilot was a moron, but god, that thing is going to own. Ground pounder, mmhhhhh. Phastasm holds 4 rexos, and the pilot gets a mossie gun. Imagine, an invisable mosquito, lal.

Sounds fun. Now that the Rikti invasion is finishing up on CoX I'll have to pop back to Planetside for a bit

Tempted to give it a try, any tips for complete newbies to the game?

Go into the VR shooting range and test fire all the weapons.
Go into the VR driving range and do the same in the vehicles.

Doing this will give you enough experience to get about .. BR 4 or 5 probably, which will give you additional cert points to play with.

Having a squad to work with will help a lot, and most of the organised squads use teamspeak.

For myself, I'm not great at the short range fighting, so I've specialised in sniping and support (medic / engineer / hacker), with occasional forays into driving stuff.

Testing out the weapons and vehicles ought to give you some idea of what you enjoy using.

Still in the middle of downloading the big extra chunk of stuff after the initial install so should be able to take a proper look tonight. Sure enough the tips on the main site say to check out the VR stuff to get some extra cert points to begin with.
Have to try remember to install the teamspeak software again too (tried using it with SG in CoX but most of them weren't bothered/put off by some bad experiences they had with guilds in WoW).

Yes, just follow the VR Missions, and like Heretic said, get a feel for the different weapons/vehicles and see what you are best at. Also if your character is less than a week old, you can swap your cert points (lets you use different weapons/equipment/vehicles, you'll find out when you do the trianing missions) without penalty. But thereafter you can swap certs only every 6 hours.

I saw in my other thread that your going for the Vanu Sovierenty empire ( I think ). I guessing you'll be going onto the Werner/European server. In that case, hopefully one of the outfits/guilds like "Longforgotten Soldiers" or "Immortal Serial Killers" that use team-speak pick you up so you can learn the game faster. Planetside is loads of fun when on TS/Vent doing organised stuff you'll soon find out. Good luck

Sure might try each allegiance, it's just that being a sci-fi/fantasy fan the less realistic the weapons the better IMO.
Probably need to take another look at the weapons and vehicles again tonight to decide.

UPDATE: Seems that "Planetside Syndicate" has run out of keys. If you are still interested, you'll have to use the "Planetside Universe" link in the OP, then (1) register on the forums, (2) wait 24 hours to request a key and (3) make 2 constructive posts on the forums, spam posts will be deleted.

Glad I didn't take a trial key so (bought the game instead), otherwise I'd feel guilty about someone who might genuinely enjoy the game not getting to try it.
