Thinking of getting this to upgrade my two fingered typing:rolleyes:

Anyone got any practical experience with it? Is it any good?

What sort of spec do you need to run it properly?

Dabs.ie offer it for €89 (Standard), €171 (Preferred - doesn't seem to offer much more than standard) or €232 (Mobile - includes compatible Philips digital voice recorder.) Any better prices around?

    Thanks:)

some of our users have it, from my experience of it it's not bad at all, but like all of this type of software you need to take the time to train it to your voice. Not difficult but you just need to take the time. By the way what OS are you using, i've been playing with vista's speech recognition feature recently and found it to be resonably ok considdering it's built in to the OS
it's not on the same level as dragon but might be worth looking at if you already have vista installed as it may do the job for you.

There's loads of demos on Youtube, check them out and see yourself if you'd be happy with it. Compare it to Vista's speech recognition.

I tried Vista myself and did the training but found it extremely irritating (amount of corrections to be done) after a while.

I used it just to mess around a little. I did a small bit of voice training ,20 mins or so, and it wasnt usable. Maybe picked up 1/4 of the words even if i spoke slow and pronunced everything perfect it still didnt pick up much more. Im sure with more training it would be better! I think your better off sticking to the trusty keyboard!

Thanks, folks - your help is appreciated. I checked out the youtube demos, they look impressive all right but I suppose only those users who are satisfied with it will put something up so the results might be biased!

I don't have Vista - still on XP - but the inbuilt speech recognition app has got pretty bad reviews and hasn't set the world on fire. I am leaning towards getting Dragon and chucking another 1G of RAM into my machine (1.4Ghz Pentium M) to oil the wheels.

I suppose what's bothering me is that given that speech recognition is potentially such a "killer app" and that the reviews of Dragon are so positive, how come it's not vastly more popular and common than it actually is? Are magazine reviewers using top spec machines with Gigs of RAM???
