It's good fun and fairly easy.

Just try not to go to work hungover or tired. It's so painful when you're hungover or tired...

I did this for three years. there are loads of ups and downs.

Ups: you get to socialise while getting paid. you get tipped by very drunk and very generous people. you get an eagle-eye view of the place and see potential pussy for when you're finished.

downs: you work the weekends so no social life for you until half 2 in the morning when everyone's fecked. you have to deal with complete ar*eholes. you can get VERY stressed on a busy night.

it's up to you really, I liked it, and I have good experience

Did any of the other barmen here drink on the job? I knew a few lads who did it regularly (I did it once or twice...) and it really does make the job good fun :)

Worked in a few battle cruisers in my college and travelling years, I would defo recommend it for spotting potential end-of-night treats, pulled a good few not-too-drunk;) dollies in my time.

Overall though it's not a bad way to spend your college years, sure your college mates won't be goin out anyhow, cos they've no money and they're studying:rolleyes:

As regards drinking on the job, I thought it was an unwritten rule that you have to! At one stage in Australia there was me and 4 mates working in the one pub while the manager was a very good mate of ours, you can imagine...

He must be doin something right though, he's there the last 9/10 years!!

Sure try it and if you don't like it try something else.

I worked in pubs for about 10 years, part time in school and college and while I was working full time.
It can be fun,but putting up with drunk people and the fights etc that can result
is far from fun, but luckily it isn't too common either unless your in a night club and usually you have security there too:)
I would advise avoiding night clubs though:)

An ex of mine had terrible hearing after working in a nightclub for years. Is that one of the big problems?

I ve decided i will work in a pub and not a nite club.

My next question is how do i go about applying for the job?

Should i send in my cv to places, or should i go on a pub crawl and ask around?

Best idea: go around the pubs on a Friday or Saturday night, and check out how the staff are doing. You'll be able to see how much support they get (for glasses and bottles), and what the people in the pub are like.

And most importantly, find out when they stop serving on a Sunday night. Working till 3am or 4am Monday morning, before college, may get to you.

Then, next day, goto the places that you liked, and ask to speak to the manager, and see if they have an opening.

Although it can be fun, it may destroy your sleep pattern, which can be annoying when trying to get out of bed on Monday or Tuesday for college.
