We have just got a new 'Panelling Centre' kitchen put in by an installer we got on a list of recommended installers from the panelling centre (though they don't take any responsibility for these)

    - the cornice/side panels are not installed the way this kitchen is supposed to "look" - they are supposed to be completely flush with the doors etc as per the wall units at the top right of this picture

    http://www.in-house.ie/pics/pro_largeimage_157.jpg

but they are recessed which looks silly...

    - the handles are only 2 thirds the size of the ones WE REQUESTED - but he now says as they are drilled into the doors it is too late to change them (as the doors would now have to be replaced...)

    - a couple of the (too small) handles aren't even level on the presses - the right one is a centimetre higher than the left one - seems small but you DO notice it

Hope I don't sound picky but where do I stand here in getting him to rectify the situation - if he has to replace the doors to cure the handle problem he will end up making a LOSS on this installation....

ps haven't paid any money yet.

Had you specifically agreed what was in that picture with him prior to it bring installed?

If so, I wouldn't pay a cent until the job is fixed, as it doesn't match what you paid for. Especially the problem with the wonky door handles, that's definitely an error in installing the product. If he drills something into a door wrong, it's his fault not yours.

We just said "like in the showroom" - but even though he has a trade account there he obviously didn't go and have a look...

I agree on the wonky door handles - that covers 2 presses.

A bigger issue is the wrong size handles on all the other doors you can see the large ones in the picture - and we even gave the product code to him specifying the size of the handles - whether we just accept the small size (which looks wrong on this kitchen)

Not done properly - just dont pay the idiot. Not one single cent. Tell the guy if he wont do it then someone else will. Spend the money you put aside getting it fixed and send the idiot the balance when it is right. Before you mail the balance send the idiot a letter which states you had to deduct x amount to correct his work and if he wants the balance he needs to sign something to say he will not try and sue you. If he does not sign = no money. Keep all correspondence for later in case he does sue.

They recommend the installers so make them stand over their recommendation in full.

First get the right parts delivered, bring out the panelling centre then and show them the feckups

Let them sort it out onsite with the installer and decide who is responsible.

Oh and make sure you photocopy the drawing in case it disappears .

Tell yer man you are waiting for the panelling centre to review the job for you before you discuss it.

hi spongebob - only prob with that is the panelling centre state on the sheet with the names of recommended installers that they "take no responsibility whatsoever" for standard of workmanship etc and that the list only represents a helpful list of installers....

humm, they sound worse than cash and carry kitchens ..except that cash and carry leave it to you to find an installer and are genuinely not responsible

they recommended the installer, simple, tell them you work for the revenue and that you expect that all their recommended installers have a c2 and taht the panelling lot are not aiding and abetting in revenue fraud.

bet that will have an astounding effect :)

then the right parts will arrive just like that (poof) and the installer will come back to finish the job properly or will send a proper installer in.

and then you pay for the job you agreed to pay for , not before.
