I'm in the market for an apple macbook.

I want a white one with decent enough specs. I don't want a top of the range one though

I don't think bargains are really to be had with macs, they employ a reasonably stable global pricing strategy. I've heard they're cheaper stateside, but I don't think by much.

they are still alot cheaper in the states.

If you are a student you can buy one online at the apple educational store and you get a discount. I don't think they check if you are a student if you get my drift ;)

much cheaper in the states, but you either need to know someone over there coming home soon or be going there yourself soon.

as in you can't just buy off the american site as it will change to the irish store after you check out.

1 Year Worldwide warranty on Portables (No entitlement to DOA procedure within 28 days)

Desktops are region specific (European AASP's won't even touch a US model)

17% for Education and third party Employee purchase schemes (big corporations etc)
27% for an Apple Employee, so if you know one thats your best bet.

Prices in euros equate to the same number in dollars so essentially your saving on whatever the exchange rate.

Refurb store also gives 1 year manufacturers warranty, but might have minor cosmetic inperfections. Check it out good and proper within the 10 days as your purchasing through the Applestore (10 day return policy no matter whats wrong with it)

Applecare Protection Plan just isn't worth it imho, most parts that fail are either covered by the 1 years warranty or a warranty extension just like the iBook debacle and the screen dying issue.

I do sometimes believe in getting things at the cheapest price available but for the quality and service that Apple offers on its product range, I'd buy directly from them and forget bargains.
