I was in my gmail inbox earlier and I saw this:
    www.stephenlynn.co.uk/temp/googlead.jpg

Wondered what the hell it could be. It lead me to this website:
    http://www.nobody.needs.to.see.that.crap

I presume it was an e-mail in my inbox which somebody had jokingly entitled "Poo" which generated the ads but still. No excuse for that!

What the hell? Do google not keep tabs on their ads, or have they just let things slip recently?

haha. Imagine you were in that webpage and a few years down the line a boss or potential love interest googled your name and your pic came up with a thong holding your poo beside it. Ming.

That's not bad at all. I was expecting some weird porn fetish or something completely disgusting.

I'm pretty sure it was an ad, not an e-mail.

What sort of emails are you getting! Gmail uses content searching and places what it believes are relevant adverts in your window...

edit: I see you are already aware of the information mining...

You can't tell if she is holding it or not, one of her hands is behind it, but doesn't look like its touching it, more like that hand is waving by it to display it much like they do on cheesy gameshows...

That's some wrong sh!t though, it looks like these people crapped out internal organs......... good gawd.

Pretty idiotic site though, you can click on the pictures so they don't display, surely the default should be that they don't display, and you click if you wish to view them.

It gets more grim, it says 'more testimonials we have recieved..' and then shows a picture of what is meant to be sh!t (again, looks more like internal organs)
and the person has placed it in a fúcking colindar.

According to the article it's "the heavy mucus coating in the colon" which has "become a host of putrefaction"

hmmmm, tis far from an article though, they are selling...

hmmm, maybe we need that layer, either way, the colon is full of sh!te.... It reminds of me of that scam whereby
some crowd offer to clean your bins once a week after they are collected, and some people cough up 4euro a week for this 'service', it's a bin ffs! It's meant to be dirty.

An article is prose. Just because it's selling something doesn't make it a non-article.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25,243 ✭✭✭✭Jesus Wept

    Well I'd disagree.

I wouldn't consider it an article in any true sense.

    The Free Dictionary

    Article
    3. A nonfictional literary composition that forms an independent part of a publication, as of a newspaper or magazine.

I'm sure we can both find various websites to back up our views, but at the end of the day, any page that tells me something, and then asks me for my credit card details based on it, is not an article in my mind, It's a sales pitch. :p

(Psst; this isn't something you can disagree on, ie, not open to interpretation)

But that's ok, people having been ignoring the meaning of various words in the English language for centuries.

    I see.

Maybe you should release your own dictionary so the rest of us can understand what you mean. :D

Maybe language and the meaning of words just changes over time.

You could share what century the meaning each of your words are referenced from? :p

Oxford dictionary is wrong too, send them an email. :p

Sorry, you're not escaping into the land of "us versus you" buddy, it's just you and me, you're not speaking on behalf of anyone else :)

You have posted the definition of "article" and then proceeded to make up how you interpret it, despite looking it up yourself.

I'm failing to see where you think your "interpretation" is validated here? An article is a piece of writing, I have stated no more, you seem to be under the impression "a piece of writing" means "a piece of writing that is not selling something".

    That's just silly.

If you'd like to point out that it happens to mention newspapers and magazines, I think you'd be offending a lot of professional journalists who make a very good living off writing articles for websites.

make up how you interpret it? That's just silly.

Is there a different way to interpret things other than to make up your own mind?

Either way, the main word in the definitions that stood out to me was independent.

Of course, there are varying degrees of how independent a piece of writing is, but when they ask for my credit card details at the end, I think it's safe to say its far from independent.

I don't recall stating that you were wrong.
I did state that any page of writing that follows with them requesting my credit card details based on it....

I showed a couple of definitions, but separately, also my own view.

I call it an opinion, you can call it 'proceeding to make up how you interpret it' if you wish. :D
