Ok so i live in an apartment in Cork City Centre have had Sky for ages and over the last year the Sky has started to break up on certain channels. It's been unwatchable. The guy who installed the communial dish in this place is like Lord Lucan he disappears for months at a time and never actually answers his phone. The one time he did he had a look at the dish and said someone tapped into the dish with some kind of broadband connection. He fixed it but the next morning the same problem was back. That was november. Cant get hold of him since.

I'm thinking of moving to South Coast Digital. I've got questions that would tip the balence on weather to get it or not.

Is the dish/aerial big? It needs to be small enough to not be a big deal to the landlord.

Is the signal good in the city? I.E. i've gone so long avoiding channels because they are unwatchable all i want is TV that doesn't break up.

Does it broadcast in widescreen? Would a person that has had Sky for almost 8 years like i have not be able to take the step back that this inevitably is.

I like having a great picture dont use most of the channels on Sky but if i could get this thing to work for me it would put an end to a year for chasing the Sky guy.

Surely its a matter of just asking your landlord/managment company to fix the dish (employing a proper installer if necessary) and perhaps getting neighbours do do likewise.

If that doesnt work threaten to withold payment (might be worth getting legal advice though)

Generally it would be but we've got battles on our hands with the landlord that take precedence (dont ask:-) and everyone else in the place seems to not give a damn about if sky works or not. For all i know they may not even have sky. Though that is hard to belive with 32 apartments.

Another question for anyone who has SCTV. Is there an epg with autoview?

or does anyone know where i can get this info without looking dumb on the phone to customer services.

I'm in Douglas/TC, picture quality is excellent... no breakups during bad weather or anything.
Selection of channels is good too, a good mix of stuff (I'm on the entertainment pack €26)
The dish/ariel is very small and tidy, about 8-10inches diameter (smaller than a sky minidish)
The EPG is not as good as Sky's, can only see whats on now/next, I presume that the newflexibox (SCTV's version of Sky+) will have a more comprehensive EPG.

Unlikely to have much more EPG.
Most of the channels on SCTVs pack are available free on satellite at higher quality. SCTV needs an outoor dish or patch antenna.

There is also the risk it will be closed as the licencing procedure was questionable.
