My Sky subscription ended on August 4 and first thing I noticed is that I cant access the various programmes I had recorded. Any way of doing this?

Apart from being able to receive a few freeview channels is there now any other use for the Sky+ box? I actually have another box as I had multiroom installed.

Stupid questions maybe but Im not too familiar with these things unfortunately.

You cannot access your saved programs unless you have a valid contract. The sky plus box is useless without a valid subscription. Best thing you can do is remove the card, turn off the power for two minutes and switch it back on without the card so that you will get bbc on 101 etc...you can purchase an FTV card which will give you channel 4 and channel 5 amongst others.

    Muffler,

If you still have another card with a valid sub you can place this in the now defunct digibox and phone sky up and ask them to marry the active card to this digibox.

You will need the serial number of the card AND the serial number of the digibox to do this. The number on the card is obvious and the sky rep will tell you how to get the box serial number.

Once you have done this you should be able to access the content again, though I won't guarantee it and I am assuming you still have a Sky+ sub on the active card.

When you are finished with the box and are sure you no longer want to use it for a sky sub, stick it on ebay and then buy a FTA receiver.

    Good luck. Baud.

BTW - Why did you decide to dump all or part of your sky sub ?

    Thanks for the replies lads.

I cancelled the entire shebang with Sky mainly due to the pricing and for other personal reasons so i dont think I can contact them now about the other card as there is no valid subscription/contract.

A couple of months back I cancelled the multiroom first and asked by email what the new monthly premium would be for the Sky+ end of things. I got 3 seperate replies all giving me a different rate so that just made my mind up to be shod of the muppets.

Of course I lived in hope that they would offer me some new deal but alas no. I will miss the auld footie though but theres always match of the day if I can manage to avoid hearing the results.

Slightly off topic but whats the story with Setanta - do they offer any good deals on premiership matches?

The rugby world cup is just a few weeks away but thankfully that will be carried on terrestrial.

You have to have a valid sub for the channel you recorded at the time of playback.

I know of people that sub to sports during the football season and then switch it to movies during the summer. They record films on sky+ during the year and watch them during the summer when they are subbed to movies. Tight feckers.

Does this imply you can record (but not see) movies you dont have a sub for, then later get a sub and watch that recorded movie?

I think it does imply this, but it is not correct.

Apologies - you are correct. You can indeed record channels that you do not subscribe to, then watch them once you do subcribe to them.

apologies for the duplicate posts, boards servers had a conniption in the middle of my posting and now I see the effect.
Anyway thanks for clarifying that, Sky dont seem to advertise (ha:D ha) this particular feature, wonder is it an unintentional oversight.
It adds a whole new dimension to to Sky+ if only the harddrives are big enough.
Has anyone coined the term "subscription surfing" yet.
(& whats wrong with being "feckin tight" when theres better things I could be spending my money on;) )
Are there any T&Cs about how many or what limits there are to changing your subscription, can you change it every month?
On the other hand where am I going to find time to watch the stuff recorded last year:confused:
