took a few of Aslan down at the Noggin tonight -- while music is my first love , i'm a rock snapper novice -- George Michael its not, but i've always had a soft spot for Aslan

the lighting was woefull, so i maxed out the iso , and forgot my new lens , which would have been perfect

Perhaps I'm missing something, but this was an outdoor gig?
When I shoot at a gig, and I talk about the lighting being woefull, I mean it's so dark, ISO1600 and spot metering bears grave results.
You appear to be have been shooting at an outdoor gig*.

    What's the new lens?! :)

*daytime gigs, I hate. I've never covered one, so I'm ignorant!

yeah it was outdoors , but darkness was falling and it was a bit misty/drizzly , i don't know if it was my hands being unsteady, but i put the iso from 200 -- 400 - 1600 --
the new lens i forgot is a nikon 50 mm f1.8 (would have been perfect to try out !) --

ps Christy Dignam is a bit of an enigma in dublin, and has a loyal hardcore following -- i like the first one , the others are a bit iffy to me

Daytime gigs can be a bit of a balls to shoot - the backgrounds are usually horrible... Spot metering ftw & underexposing by a stop is my usual guideline, if only to make some use of the lights on stage.

Otherwise it can be incredibly difficult to seperate band from background.

As for the shots above, I like the first one Barry, I would suggest recovering a bit more detail from the face though. The second one dosn't appeal to me as much, I feel that it could have been taken much better.
