    Hey Guys,
A few days ago I got an Eye-test and well im a little Myopic (Nearsighted) I knew this anyway, Started appearing maybe 8 months ago. Anyway, I got glasses for it but ,as I am 15, Glasses + Being a tean do not mix ... And they are annoyning. So im thinking about Contacts . I asked the opticion but she said try glasses first, But clearly she was busy and wanted me in and out (This was in a SpecSavers :p loool ) Just want some advice if I should get contacts ? I have recearched up about them , Dailys , Extented-Wear etc etc . But just wasnt some advice pls from anyone who has them to even an Eye Doctor if there is one on here :D .

    Thanks in Advance,
    Barry

I think you should give the glasses a go first and see how you get on...you can get a lot of funky modern looking styles now. The other half wears glasses all the time - she's got a few pairs that she mixes around with whatever outfit/mood she's in.
She wears contacts sometimes too (daily disposables) but usually only now and again for going out or sports (although she's said that if you're unlucky contacts can float away in the pool.....). I'll ask her to comment......

    Hi Barry,
Daily disposables are probably the easiest to get used to wearing, it does take a bit of practice first on getting them in & out, but there's no cleaning/disinfection to be done (wash your hands well tho' when putting them in).
If you're going for any other type you will have to be very careful with cleaning/disinfecting them (don't want to get an eye infection :( ). Also you should bear in mind the ongoing cost of the cleaning solutions.

Have a chat with your optician again or maybe go somewhere else for an evaluation, check that you haven't got dry eyes (lack of tears) which might make wearing contacts uncomfortable. Sometimes they advertise free contact lenses trials.
If you do go for the lenses, you should get a pair of glasses as a backup anyway for when you forget to stockup on lenses, run out of solution, lose them......or just to give your eyes a breather every now and again.

    Hi Keith (& Wife :) ),

First can I say thanks very much for going to the trouble of replying in detail and even the effort of asking your Wife to comment :)

Thanks for the info, I was looking up about the different contacts and IF I was to get any at all, I think the Daily Disposables would be best, Because supposedly its easier to get an infection from the longer use contacts as its easy to not clean them correctly/enough. I saw some nasty eye infections (Eg. Cornea Ulcer) :( .

I already have 2 pairs of glasses, So they can be backups. I think I will go somewhere else for the evaluation etc and a second opinion never hurt :D

Again thanks very much for going to all the effort with advice etc :)

    Barry.

Did you just go for a normal eye test at an optician? If so, beware. Once I went to an opthamologist for an eye test and then to an optician a few days later. Totally different measurements. I'm not saying the optician was wrong, but if you didn't get your pupils dilated for the test, no results are reliable. It could be pseudomyopia. Get a second opinion before doing anything else.

    Thanks Lola,
Well it was a normal eye test at a SpecSavers but the opticion did like turn off the lights and told me to read the board for half of the test and she also looked into my eyes really close with some sort of hand-held instrument.

    Barry.

That's not a proper eye test then. If you want to make sure, visit an opthamologist, who'll be able to tell you why it's important.

    Barry.

    good. ;-)

i've had so many bad experiences with optician's poor testing methods, so believe me i've learned from all that. ;-)
