Another name this film...

I saw a trailer maybe 16 months to 2 years ago in the cinema, for a horror film. Now, the thing is, I was sure this film was 'The Return' with Sarah Michelle Gellar, but having rented it tonight, it definitely is not as 'The Return' turned out to be more of a thriller then a horror. I really don't know anything about it, except the trailer was heavily laden with scenes similar to stuff in The Ring, The Grudge, The Messengers, that type of thing - lots of decayed and generally nasty looking entities/corpses/people. One scene from the trailer in particular I think was one of these things appearing in the washing machine door or something as a girl went down to get clothes or whatever. Anyone shed any light on this? Again, it was relatively recent, and again, it seemed like a fairly high budget affair and was a trailer in the cinema. Any help at all appreciated...

Seriously though, it's the ****ty remake of Pulse. Trailer here.

Should I even bother telling you to see the original instead?

The remake is a truely horrible film. Watching it made me want to do a Kurt Corbain.

Ah yeah, it's not just bad, it's Nicolas Cage in The Wicker Man bad.

Pfft. The original has Koyuki in it. I know who I'd rather. ;)

I don't know what your talking about. There was no remake of The Wicker Man, they realised they'd never better the original and decided to leave it be.

Seriously though, the Pulse remake is even worse than the abomination that is The Wicker Man remake. At least in the Wicker Man I got to laugh at Nicholas Cage punching and kicking women, while he tries to act.

Knowing Havok though, it won't matter how bad it is. He's a very big B-Movie fan. "The original film is better? Best avoid that so!"

I also enjoy B-Movies and a lot of remakes, but Pulse was just terrible. I've seen better films for sale in the 2 euro shop.

I feel a bit odd talking about Havok's tastes, but from my speakings with him, he seems to really love awful, awful movies. I'd imagine the more you're trying to illustrate just how crap it is, the giddier and more excited he's getting.

The original's pretty damn good though.

    Brilliant stuff, thanks a million.

And ah Karl you know me too well. Sure didn't I sit down one day to watch the original version of The Ring, honestly fired up by the critical acclaim of this supposed masterpiece that the remake was a mere shadow of in pretty much every possible way.....it was so bad that since then I just usually go straight to the remakes, often not even realizing that there even is an 'original'.

I bet even that one paragraph is enough to get your blood boiling... :D

They should have put that on the back of the box as the synopsis. Probably would have done even better.

Seriously though I think I've somewhat outgrown my dreadful tastes. I still love B-Movies, but these days only those of a fairly high calibre if you can say that of said market. No more 'Cyborg Cop 3' or 'Ninja Terminator' for me...

I really did like Starship Troopers 2 though, honestly. I can't wait for the third one.

Nah, it's not that easy to get a rise out of me. Besides, this is you we're talking about. The idea of you enjoying something bad and thinking something great was boring, well I'd just shrug and say to myself "Well, that's MobileInfantry for you." ;)

    What? Not even 'Mansquito'?

Um, what exactly are you watching now that's better than your previous filmic mainstay?

    Dont see the original!

    (Sorry Karl)

But the original was a load of sh*te and I assumed the remake was aswell. The only positive thing I could ever see about the original was that it discouraged people acting like emo's cause being EMO gets you killed (well fade away into nothingness). But yeah original is rubbish.

Use the disc as a coster and watch the original instead.

Well I rented it last night and I thought it was decent. Plot was fairly rubbish and actually seems alarmingly identical to White Noise, but to be honest it didn't stop me from enjoying it.

I've just gone off films in general really, at one stage I had a list to watch about two pages long and I think I've only watched about one of them. So these days titles like 'Norbit' and whatever else lines the new releases shelves at Xtra-Vision is the height of it.

I think the last B-Movie I watched was Transmorphers...which was so painfully bad even I couldn't sit through more then about 20 minutes. Before that, I think it was Behind Enemy Lines 2. There's probably 100's of releases in between and since that I haven't even heard about that normally I'd be itching about....

Jesus, if you're watching films like Norbit these days, now wonder you've gone off films!

Somebody, get this man a copy of The Prestige, quick!

I think the film you may be referring to is called 'Dark Water', with the lead played by Jennifer Connelly. It's a remake of a Japanese ghost/horror film and, for once, it far surpasses the source material.

I'd thoroughly recommend it. Although it ostensibly remains in the same genre, it becomes something as much psychological as anything else. Connelly has seldom been better.

    Hope this helps.

First of all, it's definetly Pulse he was looking for.

Second of all, no way in hell was the remake of Dark Water better than the original. It's equally as crap as any other abysmal remake, and although Jennifer Connelly was good, it was still terrible.
