Been looking for the amiga roms for monkey island 1 and 2 but cant find them any where. I played these games when I was younger and loved them and want to play through them again. Does anyone know where I could get either of these games?

Naughty Naughty! No, but seriously do a half hearted search. But what I will recommend is to check out the Abime Amiga Forums. They give great technical help on the Amiga. Also check out Amiga Lemon Forums.

Also, you will remember that Monkey island on the Amiga was a swap fest with 11 floppies - not to mind say saving to floppy your save games. You could then advance to using WHDLoad. Many dedicated folk have created script slave files that allow Monkey I/II to be played under workbench 3.1. WHDLoad allows you to run it off the hard drive. Or you can try simply the installer under workbench.

Or you could use ScummVM. Advantage here is if you have the dos version you can use the game files with this. Probably is your easiest option. Even the amiga versions can be used here. The PC version has 256 colors as opposed to the 16 color Amiga version. Compare both versions as Guybrush crosses the bridge in MK2 at the start - well after Largo empties your pockets! :) I like the Amiga's version of the music but prefer the graphics of the PC - since the Amiga backdrops were color reduced from these - still excellent though!

I am assuming you are using the WinUAE (or Fellow) emulator and played other A500 (1.3) games on it? I ask because you'll need the 1.3/3.1 kickstart romchip code.

Actually take a look at the Amiga Wiki FAQ... this is excellent!

Any issues please PM - I'm going through an Amiga sugar rush right now. :p

If you do go down the Amiga route - install workbench 3.1 - and whdload and configure your system as an expanded Amiga 1200. There are others out there such as AmigaSys3 and AmigaInaBox - but starting with workbench 3.1 gives you maximum compatibility.

I have the one for the PC, the Secret of Monkeys Island (first one I think) with the 3 1/2" floppys and the spinning wheel. :)

Those Godforsaken wheels! - I used to think it was cool back then but it got ridiculous with Rocket Ranger when I need to use such a wheel constantly when travelling from place to place within the game. I think it was used to calculate the amount fuel to travel with - you would crash otherwise.

Thankfully Whdload and Scumm avoid that. Now that you mentioned it - I actually have that wheel on the shelf with the manual - those 3 disks are in the press out of the way - probably never to see the light of day again. God - better buy a floppy drive from komplett before they go extinct for ever. :D

*edit: when I played MK1 in dos originally I had an adlib soundcard which would not emulate soundblaster for MK1. So MK1 was a silent movie for me initally - was such a downer compared to MK2 on the Amiga - til I got a soundblaster.

Monkey Island 1 will work from the HD using the basic installer it came with on one of the disks... You will need to set the chipset to "Original" in the early startup menu. Monkey 2 will install and run from a hard drive no problem... I will point out here as well that what you're looking for are not in fact "ROMs" but floppy images or ADFs - Amiga ROMs are something totally different, but no less illegal to download.

As I'm guessing you're dabbling in an Amiga enulator there's no real need to use WHDLoad for getting the old games to work - just set your UAE settings to match the system requirements of the game you're trying to run.

    Jordan,

If you go down the route of running the floppies directly then it's just a matter of picking an A500 with 512K or 1Mb of ram from winuae. But if you get bored of swopping floppies - create a harddrive file or assign a windows folder as a harddrive (like Dosbox) - install workbench 1.3 on it using the rather helpful Green Alien Guide. The author of this site passed away recently and is greatly missed at the abime forums but his help lives on. :)

Personally I prefer the PC version as the graphics are far more detailed. The main improvements being the resolution and the backround animations in the PC versions. ScummVM is definitely the way to go to play it now a days. There are number of things you can do to improve the sound on the PC version. Using the Roland MT32 sequencer emulated in ScummVM for one ;)

Yep, I completed MK1 last year on ScummVM and went 25% in with MK2 - at the bit where you bet on the roll the wheel of chance in the alleyway. I have to agree that the PC version has the warmer color set but I still pine for the amiga music (fnords). :)
