Yes it is with in the range of normal in the context of human sexuality.

Apparently 40%ish of people do the very same thing. I wouldn't worry about it.

Extremely normal, regularly reported as a very common thing to think about during sex in surveys.

would that be 40% of males or females? or both? I'd guess males would be more likely too? would not like to think that my gf needs to think of someone else to "get over the final hurdle"

    Extremely high in both sexes.

Thinking about something sexy other than what is going on is very common in both sexes. It can particularly help because many people (and here it would seem to be more women than men) find they reach a point of intensity that is "too much" to release through orgasm so they need to move back from what's going on a bit to reduce that intensity while still thinking on something sexy so they don't lose the mood entirely.

A bit confused from that post. It seems like your saying people take a step back when they hit a point of intensity thats "too much" to release through orgasm, but the OP is on about using thoughts of someone else to reach the point of orgasm.

do it all the time myself :)

For me, its just about variety. My mind will usually flick through several women, it does help with the final hurdle!

    Not Your Ornery Onager

[joke] "S/he's so ugly that when s/he's making love, s/he has to imagine that s/he's someone else". [/joke]

I think what was meant there was, say I am approaching the final hurdle, I can feel I am getting closer but if I concentrate on it too much it slips from my grasp, however, if I concentrate on sexy images (in the OP's case, other women) it helps me to cross the finishing line as I am not concentrating too hard on the sensations themselves but sexy imagery that enhances them.

Does that make sense to you now? In a way I am pulling back but only to push myself forward to the conclusion.

Yeah I can only imagine what would happen if I ever called a girl by the wrong name.

Imagine it. To me that is worse than calling your teacher mom/dad (which I did profusely in 2nd class for some reason).

I always think of other people. It's ridiculous really. I'd be thinking about sleeping with girl A when sleeping with girl B then some time later thinking about girl A whilst sleeping with girl C. Usually go through a few people with one so to speak.

Maybe it's just evolution's way of ensuring we're never satisfied with what we've got.

'Thanks for the replies......encouraging to know....

Do girls think the same say..do they think of other guys??
It strikes me that girls take the ''whole love that person'', where as guys just think of it as sex !'

I'm a girl and I already told you that I think of other things (not necessarily people, more like sexy scenarios usually with people other than my partner though sometimes it is him) during the final moments before climax.

It helps me to focus less on the sensations so that I can enjoy the sweet release of orgasm. I find if I think about it too much then it slips away from me and I end up feeling incredibly frustrated instead.

Yeah, lots of women do it... Especially those in a longer term relationships where the novelty has worn off a bit.

    Its perfectly normal.
