I currently have a fuji f10 digital camera and im perfectly happy with it as a run of the mill point and shoot camera but ive been getting annoyed with the lack of zoom , 3X zoom is just terrible , i do a fair bit of travelling and im really missing out on "once in a life time" photo ops just because i cant get close enough .... was in the amazon recently and the photo i got of a rare sloth was barely visible..... so , im looking to get somthing with a decent optical zoom. Im not looking for anything fancy or pro , so DSLR and the like is out of the question.

But I have narrowed my selection down and im now thinking of buying the following when it comes out ... Fujifilm FinePIX S8000fd , spec>http://www.dcviews.com/press/Fujifilm-S8000fd.htm

Can you guys tell me what you think of it ? Or maybe recommend a better alternative ??

    Many thanks guys !

It seems a very impressive camera. I think it's replacing the s6000fd which got an excellent review on www.dpreview.com. I'd go for it if I were you.

I'm not a big fan of AA-powered cameras, and would urge you to have a quick look at Panasonic's FZ-8 before you part with the cash.

    12x Leica zoom
    Optical image stabilisation
    Big Lithium battery
    Compact (relatively speaking)

This is what I'd go for in your shoes.

A good set of hybrid NiMHs should do you fine battery wise.

I highly recommend the Panasonic FZ-8, got one before going on a months long holidays and took 2000+ pictures with it, loved it too bits but then I bought a Nikon D40x on hols (wish I'd got the D80 but thats another story)
The FZ8's zoom is brilliant, pictures have quite a bit of noise in them at full oom but thats a bit par for the course if you know what I mean.
I got mine from ebay's EmilyandLily and think its well worth the money!
    Thats my 2cent's!
