Callback question for brand new SKY HD box bought from ebay UK

    Hi,
I have a quick question for anybody who knows about SKY HD self installations. I have recently bought a brand new SKY HD box (factory sealed) from user SKY-HDMI (based in the uk) on ebay uk.

Will I run into problems during the initial callback part of my self install due to the fact that I bought the box from a agent in the UK? I have read somewhere that the box will attempt to ring the UK for callback but will be unable to do so as the dialling prefix to get out of ROI will not be present in the automatic number the box will diall for callback. Is this info incorrect for my case here. Does anybody have first hand experience of a self install completed on a factory sealed box bought from the UK?

any help would be appreciated.

    1. Bought it from fleabay. UK Seller
    2. Unpacked it and hooked it up to the hd tv.
    3. Rang Sky and asked them to marry the card to the new box and up the sub.
    4. 5 minutes later all was working and I have not had any issues since.

I was not too impressed with the picture quality until I swapped from SCART to HDMI..... I had no idea that it would make such a difference, I am not a AV boffin at all...

The quality of the HD channels is REAL nice !

I had anticipated an issue with the callback number as well, but I did not have one... however as far as I remember it can be easily rectified if you do.... somewhere in the installer menu and sky will supply with the correct number if required.

    rgs. baud.

Callback number dialled is determined by the viewing card inserted.

UK card, dials the UK numbers..
ROI card, dials the Irish numbers..

The STBs themselves are identical for UK / ROI..

Yes, it seems Sky generally seem quite happy now to activate without the phone line.

Stebishop, can I ask you a few q's, considering you bought from exactly the same place as myself?

    1. Did you do a forced update (Hold down <backup> button on box while plugging it in to the wall mains socket) before ringing sky to activate?
    2. What details did sky look off you when you were asking them to pair the new box to your card?
    3. Did you have any issues with getting your sub upgraded to HD, as far as waiting for the HD channels to show up after the call?
    4. Did sky rep not ask you at all if you had ppreviously done the callback on your box?
    5. Any issues with dish alignment after installing the quad LNB?
    6. Any issues with the box since you installed it?

    Cheers.:D

I bought a HD box from ebay too myself lately, so:

    1. No
    2. Viewing card number, box serial number (think she may have asked for the software version too)
    3. N/A at the moment. I bought it to replace a V2 Sky+ box and getting the TV later but they said all I need to do is call them back when I do
    4. No
    5. Already in place as I had Sky+ beforehand
    6. No. All fine :)

Bought a Sky HD box on ebay. Had it installed yesterday by local Satellite dealer. Package working and the HD channels are out of this world when using the HDMI input. Would recommend it 100%

It's irrelevant what the number is. Its automatic via the card & box. Sky can even change it via satellite.

    It's a modem that answers.

You have no need to know the number. Also it is free.

It' not irrelevant what the number is when you consider call barring will prevent a callback.Obviously it's a modem bank that answer. Do you know the number or not?

Tony is quite correct, you do not need to know it because no call back occurs. The number is a 1800 so it costs you nothing.

    Later,

Question re: HD box bought from UK and self installed. Will the programmes I have presently stored on my Sky+ box be retained once I install the new HD box?

    Many thanks
