Anyone heard of this programme (Registry Smart) which is supposed to identify and repair faults? A test run identified over 700 faults on my computer but there is a payment of something like $60 for the repair facility. Is it a reputable product? Is is worth the payment? Are there better alternatives?

There are a few, try CCleaner. Never heard of Registry Smart.

    sounds like crudware, Aeneas.

just like countless other software which claims to identify problems with your pc, only to ask advance payment before "fixing" the usually non-existent problems.

i can't recommend any software personally, but i know a friend who swears by WinASO

just think that, if microsoft could safely optimise the registry, it would be built in already, no?

Sounds a bit suspicious eh. $60 is a lot of money for a program like that. It seems to be a legitimate program, but I seriously doubt it will help fix your PC up. No doubt they are false positives, or it will clean legitimate registry entries

WinASO is pretty good, personally I prefer "Registry Mechanic" which is considered the best, and should be cheaper.

However running the registry cleaner in CCleaner might be enough.
