screen size - fat photos!

    Hello,

    Just bought a Dell Inspiron with a wide flat screen (19").
    I loaded some photos on from cd and everyone looks FAT in them! It's to do with the wide screen, but I can't figure out how to fix it so that the photos are just normal. There must be a way of setting screen size so it blackens out a bit either side and is more of a square looking screen (as opposed to wide screen) and hence making the photos look normal.

    I tried screen resolutions but no good. Also, I've good spec on PC so dont think its anything to do with that. I'm sure its something simple - I just can't figure it out and v annoying! Any help would be v much appreciated.

    Also, I need to get MS Office - where is best place to buy this? PC World or somewhere?

    You could use Open Office - it's free.

    I'm not sure why your pictures are being stretched to fill the screen instead of being opened at their normal size. What prog are you viewing them in?

    I think Windows' Picture and Fax Viewer doesn't stretch photos by default. Worth a try.

    unless you need microsoft office for a specific feature try OO first

    what resolution are you running at ? and is this the same as the physical pixel on the screen. ( right click desktop , properties )

    what app are you using to view the pictures ?

    Thanks for replies.

    It was to do with pixel / resolution...

    This is what I did incase anyone else comes across it:

    Right click on screen, go to "personalize". Go to screen display. There's a bar there where you can change around the pixel / resolution - i.e., different options like 732 x 1258, etc. ANyway, apparently the ideal for my screen is 1440 x 900 and now everything (photos etc.) looks normal and good.
