    Hi there

    going for an aptitude test next week for a networking course, just wondering what is involved? Are they standard across all technical courses or would it be course specific?

    Thanks

    Easy as pie. Its along the lines of whici is faster, USB or Parrell, and other simple things.

    Basically, if you've ever come within a foot of a PC before, you'll get 20%. If you've used a PC before, you'll pass the exam.

    Fúck, one of the guys was only doing it as "their wife made them go" o.O

    Oh, and where about you doinf it? Ballyfermot, by any chance?

    In centre in Jervis street actually checking the spec on aptitude test it lists the following
    Logical Thinking
    Diagnostic fault finding
    Manual Dexterity (optional) Not sure if i should do this or not

    As I've built around 10 PC's for family and friends and set up a fairly robust wireless home network I hope your right Syco.

    From what I could tell, this is how its done: to ensure you can speak english, know the basics of computer, you're not brain dead, and that if too many people apply, they have some sort of elimination process.

    If I remember correctly, before each one was a sample question, which the supervisor of the test process (I was in a room of 15 people) would verify what the correct answers of the sample questions were, etc.

    Well did the tests this morning and man was it hard!!!! 3 different tests, first one was read technical paragraphs and and answer correct incorrect or unable to answer from text 25 minutes to answer about 60 questions, next was a symbol test with shapes your given keys to invert turn upside down re arrange cancel previos action etc again around 60 questions 25 mins, last was a number sequence one for example 2 4 6 _ 10, but they got progresively harder and included fractions decimal points etc 15 mins for around 40 questions. Fas lady said they had already tested around 60 people so far for 25 places. you have to pass all 3 and I don't hold out to much hope to be honest.

    From what you've said, it was a different type of test. Looks like more people applied. Of the 25 that applied in Ballyfermot, 23 got in, I think.

    Yeah, that's usually a bit hard.
    next was a symbol test with shapes your given keys to invert turn upside down re arrange cancel previos action etc again around
    I love those ones.
    last was a number sequence one for example 2 4 6 _ 10, but they got progresively harder and included fractions decimal points etc
    This is usually handy enough.

    =-=

    The above sounds like a test I did to get into a trade (Sparkie for the Indo). Aced the test, but failed the interview. Meh :/

    Well, went for it and I must be honest they were quite challenging. Class room/ board room, 20 candidates per day over 4-5 days (about 80 candidates for a course capacity of 20 pupils so 75% oversubscribed). It consists of 4 tests in 1 booklet. 20 minutes each, all multiple choice.
    1. English synonyms and word meanings&spelling (one word 5 possible synonyms);
    2. English comprehension (read small paragraph and answer questions),
    3. Maths (do calculations & proportions etc);
    4. Flow charts (logical thinking flow diagrams and fill in the blank boxes).
    The part I found hardest was to finish the tests, I was way too slow. I am rather rusty as I have been out of study for about 20yrs, so I thought I flunked it hopelessly. About a week later, got a letter to attend interview and much to my surprise I did ok and got it. So just go for it, you have a good chance at least 25% !!! thats one in four to get it.

    By the sounds of things I done this one a few years ago. Hardest test I've done to date!! The trick with these is to not spend time thinking, answer as fast you can and put a mark beside questions your not sure about then at the end if you have time you can revise the ones you marked.

    Google aptitude tests...lots of sample online ones.
